Do you get a lot of calls on your home phone from 800 numbers?

Asked by jca (36062points) January 19th, 2013

Every day when I come home from work, my home phone shows unanswered calls. There are at least a few calls each day that come from 800 numbers. They don’t leave messages. They’re not collection agencies. The names on the Caller ID says things like “Autumn Special” or other weird things like that, or sometimes the names are just their phone number repeated.

When I’m home, on the few occasions I’ve answered the phone with these calls, they don’t say anything. I don’t have time to call the numbers back and deal with some robo-answer or whatever.

No, I am on the national Do Not Call registry and so I don’t get telemarketing calls.

Likewise.

Ever since I put my number on the list, no calls. There is a bit of lag time from when you first register your number and when it actually takes effect. But once it kicks in, Nirvana can be yours also.

By law, if any of them do call you, you can sue them and get a monetary judgement. Years ago a few people did precisely that and I guess it sent the message loud and clear to the rest of them that it really isn’t worth the hassle.

I was on the Do Not Call list, so not many – mainly for polls or surveys. I had maybe two persistent telemarketers who got through anyway, and I reported those. Since I gave up my land line, I get no unwanted calls.

I love the ones who expect you to wait for (and then through) a recording!! They must be lonely souls who actually sit through those calls. Makes me sad.

I’m on the Do Not Call list, but still receive three or four a week. They usually go unanswered.

I am also on the DNC list and I also get a few calls a week. If caller ID doesn’t know who they are, I don’t answer and they never leave messages. Occasionally I will answer, and while the callers tend to be unmemorable, I do remember being asked for money for some cause or another.

I tell them to dip themselves in honey and lie down in the desert.

No, not really. But I think about it.
