Why is it when a public figure speaks about peace they become targets of assassination?

What is your opinion?

Some obvious examples are, John Lennon, Bob Marley (attempted assassination), Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy.

Because the people they speak out against only know hatred.

I don’t think the peace aspect is the sole reason they become targets for assassination – I think it is the position that they hold.
Sometimes I think people in the public eye go on about peace knowing that it is simply not likely to happen, but it shows them as compassionate people, even if everyone knows they really aren’t.
Sorry, but I have got more cynical as I have got older.

This is a monumental simplification and certainly only one of many explanations, but as I see it, outspoken persons whose faces and voices are familiar in the media—politicians and celebrities—are targets, both figuratively and literally, for the anger of people who disagree with them. Antisocial types and those with mental problems express this anger in the form of violence.

Arms dealers see it as a threat. And they’re well armed.
And they know plenty of unstable people who can be manipulated.

@SomeoneElse It is both possible to live in a society that screws each other over and to live in one where everyone helps each other out. It’s not impossible if you don’t want it to be.

Hamas thrives on conflict. They are not needed once there’s peace.
