Why do we no longer hear about crop circles?

Asked by rojo (24179points) January 23rd, 2013

I was wondering if it was still an ongoing occurrence and, evidently, it is Photos and More Photos. It seems to be much more active in the UK but not exclusive Washington State video. But they no longer make the news, at least not here in Texas. Do they occur in Blue states? What about the rest of the world? Do you ever hear of them anymore or is there no room for this kind of thing, what with the Kardashians and such taking up so much space? Do you have a favorite? Don’t you think many of the designs would make great tattoos?

They’ve been pretty much categorically debunked. So you’ll hear as much about them as you will about sightings of flying saucers. Which means, if you watch the History Channel on alien day.

@Seek_Kolinahr while they may have been debunked as an unexplained phenomena, they still exist and are still beautiful in their own right.

I agree. However I think most circle artists did what they did for the shiggles, and not so much for the artistic expression. No shiggles, no circles.

Those photos are amazing. I agree they are in the category of UFO’s when trying to be sold as happening by magic. But, they are artwork when not trying to get attention for some alien nation.

There mysterious cause is no more.

Because the interests of the weird have moved on to chemtrails, harmonic convergence and HARP, to name a few.

I once watched a YouTube video of a woman watering her lawn and making all kinds of weird claims about what the government was doing to our air and water… because she could see a rainbow in her sprinkler water. No shit.

I saw a UFO once.

I have seen lots of UFOs. A UFO is something I see up in the air flying (a “Flying Object”) that I cannot identify (“Unidentified”).

(I used to live near an airport.)

@zenvelo Totally, whatever it was I don’t know. Two of us in a car saw it. I phoned the newspapers to ask if anyone else had reported it. Next minute it was in the newspapers loll

Bigfoot asked his alien buddies to stop making crop circles.

My ex husband holds the title of most amazing crop circle ever. Some mysterious force created a crop circle on his head practically overnight. I retain fond memories of the days when I would toss pebbles at his crop circle from the balcony of my old master bedroom.
Good times. lol

I don’t think people care much about temporary art. It’s like the mandalas the Buddhist monks make in various places from colored sand. Then they blow the sand into a pile a clean it up. Temporarity doesn’t sell in the West. So some people knocked over a bunch of wheat. Who the F cares?

It’s not really Big News anymore, but there are still dozens of reports world wide. If you send a donation to the crop circle site, they will keep you informed.

It would be interesting to see what our local farmers would make of a crop circle here in the Midwest, seriously it would be hilarious.

I’d love to see a PBR can in the fields. That would be hilarious. Maybe an Olde Milwaukee. In Kentucky, an Ale-8.

Well @ rojo, I read on the internet today (02/01/13) that an Australian Historian has discovered that reports of Crop Circles go back to 1880. And he also put photos of Crop Circles (in the article) that were taken in the 1940’s. Granted, I am sure that some people thought it was really funny to ‘Hoax’ the Tabloids back in the 1960’s & 1970’s – but now that I know that reports of Crop Circles go back to the 1880’s – I find it (personally) to be very interesting.

@ETpro , I find this subject to be very interesting because of the anomalies that surround the stories about Crop Circles. I’m reasonably sure that a great many of the stories about Crop Circles are hoaxes, but just suppose that some of them are not? Just think about what we might be able to learn.

ETpro's avatar

@Linda_Owl I’m always open to learning. I am not open to doing so in the lack of any compelling evidence that what I’m learning is true.
