How about fun fad?

Works for me!

Here’s a willing test subject. I tie you up first.

Personal preference.

Bondage has been around a long long time.

You see, The Thing is… it can go badly wrong ;¬}

Fun, if you have the right Dom, the right sub, and rules and respect in good doses.

Do not take the advice of Fifty Shades of Ur Doin it Rong.

Could be fun. Could be a fad. Could be a lifestyle choice.

No thanks.I prefer to let hands roam freely

Whatever two consenting adults want to do is fine by me. Fun I guess.

Mostly fun! And a fun fad!

A guy here at work was complaining because his girlfriend was mad at him. While doing a bit of play, he tied her up spread eagled on a pool table. He left the room for a moment to get a beer.

She got mad when he didn’t return. Turns out he was out of beer and drove to the 7–11 to get a twelve pack.

It’s fun for some, but it’s hard to argue it’s a fad since it has been around for an awful long time.

How is it a fad? Do people discuss their bedroom activities at work? You never know what a person’s preferences are, usually.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@wundayatta and @Blackberry I assumed the OP was using the word “fad” to describe something people are excited about for a short time, but it soon loses its allure. As in, for each individual couple. Of course, that’s not consistent with the definition of the word, but that was my impression upon reading the question.

I think bondage has absolutely become a fad with the popularity of that ridiculous, poorly-written, abuse-glorifying housewife porn novel.

Bondage is not fun. People think it is fun, but it is their twisted, deviant psychology that is at work here. They probably should be discussing these issues with a therapist. They think they aren’t hurting each other because it is consensual, but it is only reinforcing negative patterns within their psychology.

The above is an opinion—I’m not sure I fully subscribe to it, so please don’t beat me up (I hate that, by the way). But I do somewhat believe it.

@Seek_Kolinahr Ah, indeed. I wasn’t even thinking about Fifty Shades. Good point.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I’d also like to add that Fifty Shades is an embarrassment to BDSM.

Seek's avatar

Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

Not a fad, IMHO. It can be fun, depending on who your partner is, and if you both know where the lines are. I trust my husband and he trusts me, so when we choose to play around with BDSM, we have a good time with it.

Who cares? I do what I want to do, and my slave does what I want, too. Sniveling little worm!

PSA:

The difference between bdsm and abuse is consent…and consent isn’t consent unless it can be withdrawn at any time.

What does TSLVT mean?

josie's avatar

I have no idea what TSLVT means. I guess in spite of my relative youth, I am starting to become out of touch. Things move quickly these days.
Anyway, what ever people like is OK as long as it does not hurt me.
Having said it, I think bondage is a little creepy. I knew this girl who liked to be tied up (loosely) and I participated, but I sort of felt stupid, like I was wearing a suit that doesn’t fit or giving a speech about something I did not believe in. She was beautiful however. So I got by.
I like adventure as much as the next person, but I don’t see the appeal.
Speaking for myself, I say fad.

I think it takes a particular kind of personality to find that kind of activity fun, whether as a sub or a Dom(me). I’ve dabbled a little in the past but it didn’t really do anything for me. I guess I don;t have that sort of personality.
