Because the law in California allows gays and lesbians to be married, are they now able to recieve the same benifits as strait married couples?

I’m so glad that gays and lesbians can get married. That being said, do they have the same rights as far as insurance, medical decisions, benefits, ect. I haven’t heard anything about that. Maybe someone in California knows and can let us/me know. I’m guessing that benifits are another step in the journey to liberty and justice for all.
