Why would your Dr include a CBC test for an apparent sinus problem?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) February 19th, 2013

I had dizziness and balance issues so I set up an appointment. Why would she order a CBC? I’m just curious.

Had to look up CBC test (complete blood count). Most likely because they can check on infections with that kind of test, from what I read. You may have some type of sinus infection. Let us know what they do find. And feel better soon : ) I’m sending you virtual chicken soup.

Dizziness could also be caused by anemia. I dunno, CBC is pretty standard.

A CBC is a very routine test. I wouldn’t be too concerned.

I also have a sinus issue. The pain is unbearable. The doctor checked my ears also for infection but was clear. Where yours? I didn’t have a blood test.

A CBC will tell the doctor if you have an increased white cell count, an indicator of infection.

Other things, too, such as pre-diabeters, and normal kidney and liver functions. thyroid, iron, gout (!) add infinitum. My oncologists takes blood to test for cancer markers, for example.

edit; “ad” and not “add.”

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Yes to D.; is the multi really necessary?
