If you were any other animal, do you think you'd rather be domesticated or wild?

Asked by ucme (50047points) February 20th, 2013

Other than human that is.
A pet, with all the comfort that allows, free food without the need for hunting, free bed & board, affection, companionship.
Or running wild & free, living off your instincts, a lone-wolf or a member of a pack/herd.

Wild. Live fast, die young.

Domesticated: you live much longer and healthier.

I like a secure food supply so domestic.

I’d be just like I am now… domesticated but with a wild imagination.

The only domestic animal I’d consider is a cat (not an indoors-only cat though). If I can’t have that I’d rather be wild. I cherish freedom above security.

Interesting stuff so far, I think essentially what this means is, do you want to roll the dice, or live in your comfort zone…that & access to loo roll, obviously.

Bit of both. I would want to be pampered but don’t try to cage me. I would need the freedom to take off and do my own thing and be wild when I wanted.

@Bellatrix that’s exactly why I’d choose a domestic cat above all others. It’s the only domesticated animal that has the luxury of food and shelter provided, along with the freedom to come and go at will.

Bellatrix's avatar

@downtide that would be my perfect animal choice if I had to come back as something other than human. My cat has a pretty blissful life.

@Bellatrix now that looks like a very contented kitty :)

Domesticated. I do not like the so-called freedom of being cold and hungry all the time.

jonsblond's avatar

Wild. I’m no one’s pet.

I’d like to be a domesticated animal belonging to a caring and responible owner.

Wild. I love the woods and would want to be some kind of predator. But with a heart. I like being a rebel, but a caring rebel.

Im with @downtide I’d rather be a wild animal but if domesticated I’d want to be an indoor/outdoor cat. They got the life for sure.

Do you think I could be a domesticated Komodo Dragon? Now that would be a cuddly pet! LOL!

I’d want to be an elephant in a zoo or on a preserve, or perhaps a Parrot or a tortoise—animals that live a long time.

And shoot, since this is all fantasy, I’m going to be every animal, all at once. Wundy super consciousness—with distributed thinking across many domesticated and kept animals.

I have to be domesticated to be honest….I like being pampered. I don’t like competing to survive. I like to be coddled and caressed..and you get he picture. Even housepets have their “wild” moments of rebelion but when it’s all said and done, they settle back into submsssion….prrrrrrrr!

Sunny2's avatar

I’d be domesticated, but I’d still rule the roost. My owner would never figure it out.

I am a savage with an appetite for raw meat, vampires made poems about me, and I like running around in the snow and pissing off bisons. I am the wolf, bro.

But then, I’m actually just real lazy, and would rather spend my non sleeping time licking myself. I’m teh house cat yo.

I’d be some kind of bird – possibly a raptor of some type, like a chicken-hawk (Merlin).

More likely a raven. Endless food supply and incredibly adaptable to human civilisation.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I’d kill to trade lives with my indoor-only cat. What a life.

ragingloli's avatar

I would be a male horse. I would have sex with so many human women.

Wild. Lone. I’d jump at the chance of being a wolf :D
