How do I change a mobile youtube link to a desktop version?

Asked by cutiepi92 (2252points) February 25th, 2013

A friend sent me a private youtube link on her cellphone. The problem is that it’s a mobile link but the video is not actually available on mobile (only desktop access). It won’t let me watch it because even though I’m on my computer, it’s still set to mobile. Is there a way to format the link so I can play it correctly? I can ask her later for a proper link, but she isn’t by a computer and I need to see the video soon

oh and I tried putting it in my watch later list on youtube desktop. While it says there are videos in there, I can’t see them for some reason. When I click it in the video manager it says it’s empty even though there is a little number next to “watch later”

remove the “m.” in the url. For example…

http://m.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=derzWWYf3-w is a mobile link.

Here is the desktop equivalent:

http://youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=derzWWYf3-w

i tried that though, it still doesn’t work because somehow “desktop” is in the link for some reason like this:

….zBCiY&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DqXpEHyzBCiY&gl=DK

thanks for trying though

Here’s what I think is a standard YT link, that I downloaded to my desktop directly from YT:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBSwA8pMgrA

There’s no desktop in the link.

Perhaps you can edit your link to follow the above format.
