Who will join me in welcoming spring in the northern hemisphere?

Asked by gailcalled (54644points) March 19th, 2013

Spring has been here for slightly over 15 hours now. It is snowing again (and a balmy 26º), and I will sweep the deck one more time before heading to bed. It’s too cloudy to even see where the sun set on this vernal equinox. What are you doing?

Spring has sprung! Enjoying that gorgeous scent in the air, one of a kind!

I’m sitting in that teasing median between seasons. Finches are nesting in the eaves and some days get up to 70… followed by a foot of night-snow that weighs down the apple tree branches to the ground, only to vanish by early afternoon.

I’m ready for greenery.

<—- Time to switch to my spring headgear. Hurrah for the vernal equinox!

(As usual, I’ve adorned Cate’s face with a little decoration of my own.)

My husband and I are at our favorite getaway cottage in the Santa Cruz Mountains for a few more days and planning a nice dinner out tomorrow night at the Boardwalk. We’ve been walking the Redwood Trail in Henry Cowell as often as possible. You couldn’t call it a hike; it’s more of a stroll.

We’ve had some rainy weather (we don’t mind it one bit) and some lovely balmy days in the high sixties. The camellias and magnolias in the area are in full bloom, and so are the daffodils. At home the lilacs are opening; we’ll be home before they fade.

Spring? Yeah, right.
Personally I love the snow, but I seem to be in a minority. :D

HI !—- Spring

I celebrated the arrival of Spring just now by scraping frozen snow off my car. Seems odd.

It’s hard to appreciate spring in a snowstorm.

I would love it if spring would actually show its face in MN. We’ve got two feet of snow on the ground, and it’s not going any place soon. :/

18° Fahrenheit outside right now and I have errands to run. I’ll have to slog through snow and over ice to get to my frozen vehicle.
I did however put on my very spring-like pastel colored turtleneck top for the occasion. With it’s pink, lavender, baby blue, spring green and aqua stripes it does shout spring even whilst keeping my neck warm. I’ll have to put on my pink zip hoodie and warm winter coat because of the cold temps, but still will have my spring colors on.

All of my days are special. Some are just a little bit more special than others. This hasn’t (yet) been one of the “specialest” weeks. On the other hand, I’m always happy when it’s not a specialist week, so I’m usually happy.

20 degrees F this morning, a nice mix of freezing rain and snow last night so the drive in was fun, and not a flower bud in sight. Yay Spring is here.:)

@gailcalled The equinox was an hour and a half ago, 4:04 a.m. PDT! My chakras are in balance

It’s too snowy here to be thinking of spring! I almost broke out the Bing Crosby last night.

It is some 15 degrees below normal for this time of the year in my neck of the woods too. But I am happy. I have seen that the trees are budding out. I have seen crocuses and daffodils coming up. There is sunlight today.

My spirits are lifted.

Spring hasn’t sprung here. We got 10 inches of snow yesterday in a one-two punch. The first 9 inches ended before noon. Everyone got out and shoveled down to bare sidewalks. Then around 11 last night, the second round of sleet then snow came through. Result? Those nicely shoveled sidewalks are sheets of black ice this morning after a hard freeze overnight. It’s supposed to get up near 40 °F (4.44 °C) today, but frigid tonight and more snow showers tomorrow. Spring here has sprung a leak linked to the Arctic Circle, I think.

I got this from another jelly.

Those are some happy cows!

gailcalled's avatar

@Mama_Cakes: Who let the cows out? That was cheering…thanks.

Preparing for more snow now and cursing the snowshovel that just broke, again. The Phillips screw fell out and left me with a large piece of ugly black plastic and a pole (that I can use for a garden support, if the garden ever shows up.)

27˚ F now.

It’s actually getting colder here. We were in the 30’s last week, now the 20’s. Doesn’t seem right.

We’re having an exceptionally cold spring here. This is the forecast….

This Evening and Tonight:

Dry through this evening and overnight with clear spells. A frosty night with the coldest spots around Arrochar and Oban. Freshening southeasterly winds later across Kintyre and Islay. Minimum Temperature -5 °C.

Thursday:

All parts will have a dry day with sunny spells. The best of the sunshine will be along the Clyde Coast and over Argyll. Feeling cold with strengthening southeasterly winds. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cloudy and bitterly cold on Friday and Saturday with easterly gales. Also outbreaks of sleet and snow, mostly over south Lanarkshire and Ayrshire. Further wintry showers on Sunday.
