Even ordinary looking moles like the one that you described can cause cancer in certain situations. If I were you then I would seek the advice of a dermatologist.

When I was a boy a dermatologist looked over every square inch of skin on my body and remove several moles (nevus). He removed moles off all areas that typically get friction on them like on my belt-line, between my toes and also one off of my scrotum. He used a scalpel to widely excise the nevi then sutured up the gaps.
