Harry Potter fans: Where does Dumbledore apologize to Harry for forgetting what it was like to be young?

Asked by AnonymousWoman (6531points) March 27th, 2013

I don’t own any Harry Potter books because I borrowed them from one of my friends and I’ve already given them back. Anyway, I’m pretty sure there is a part in the books that this happens. Do any of you know what I’m talking about? If so, which book and which chapter? Exact words would be nice as well if that’s allowed. Thank you in advance!

“Harry, I owe you an explanation,” said Dumbledore. “An explanation of an old man’s mistakes. For I see now that what I have done, and not done, with regard to you, bears all the hallmarks of the failings of age. Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young… and I seem to have forgotten, lately…”

^ Thank you so much, @SavoirFaire! That’s exactly what I was looking for. :)
