Does anyone know the how-to-draw book I'm looking for?

Okay, this is a long shot, but I love Fluther and it’s awesome.

A long time ago, I found a how-to-draw book at Barnes and Nobles. I’m pretty sure it was about anime. Although not 100% I was younger and didn’t have my own money and so I didn’t buy it. But I remember really liking it. I only vaguely remember some things. I remember it was somewhat snarky. You know how some how-to-draw books have one or more little characters as if they’re guiding you through the book? I know there was a guy and girl character. I think they cursed here and there mildly, or at least said some suggestive things. And then there was a page about learning how to draw exaggerated features in cartoons, and one example they had was drawing a character with a bloated belly, and one of the little characters was complaining about why they had to choose this example. Something like that. Anyway, I just remember really liking the book because I found its techniques useful.

I don’t know the book you’re looking for, but if you can’t find it, try Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. It teaches you how to see differently so you can draw more accurately.

I’m not sure if this is the one but check Barnes and Noble website for a book called Anime Mania by Christopher Hart.

@Earthgirl Na, I know it’s not Christopher Hart. I actually have some of his books. It was mostly in black and white actually.

@Sunny2 is giving you good advice. Try Betty Edwards’ now-classic approach. I used her book to teach drawing out of for years and with one exception it was completely successful. It teaches you how to see, how to look, how to think – not how to copy! Yay!

@Sunny2 I ran across Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain back in nursing school in the early ‘90s while writing a paper on epilepsy, the functions on the two different lobes, and the corpus colostrum. I ended up using it to teach myself to draw and started doing my own graphics to enhance details on essays on anatomy. I sketch people and landscapes/seascapes very realistically now. Quite satisfying. Excellent book.

@susanc & @Espiritus_Corvus YES! I recommend it frequently.

@Espiritus_Corvus : corpus colostrum – you might be an ob/gyn nurse??? : )

@susanc Jesus. It doesn’t get more embarrassing than that. I thank you. Corpus Callosum. And the answer is no. I’ve worked in almost every dept. but ob/gyn, with strengths in cardiology and internal med.

Well that was nice outreach, then, @Espiritus_Corvus, plus it made me smile – thanx.
