Can I set external hard drive as default for music downloads?

Asked by jnkpauley (226points) April 7th, 2013

I want to save all my music files to my external hard drive. Is there a way to make the drive the default for this? It gets tiresome to move the songs each time I download songs.

what browser do you use to download? How are you downloading? I’m pretty sure it’s possible, but I need to know that first

I am pretty illiterate when it comes to this stuff, but I am using Google Chrome. I am using sites like Soundcloud to get various free music mp3s.

The music usually goes to the “My Downloads” or Downloads file on the C drive. Then I have to go back and manually move it the external drive.

Well for Chrome, this might help:

let me know if that works though. I hate to be the one that gives incorrect advice

Since you are such an magician, I wonder if there is a way for me to set up Itunes to go directly to the external hard drive file where I save this music when I go to add a file….rather than searching each time for the file. Geez, am I lazy.

hmmm now that I’m not sure of lol. Usually, my itunes always opens to my downloads folder but that is probably because I ALWAYS get my music from there. Sorry I’m not more helpful lol

Hi,

Well its pretty simple. You should first make a folder where you save your downloads and once you have downloaded all the songs , simply move it into your Drive D section.
