Asked by Inspired_2write (14486points) May 8th, 2013

I have a current problem with my computer
mouse,it only works intermittently, and I
have to unplug it to get it to work.
( on Fluther especially)?
Also does anyone know why all my lights on the modem are ALWAYS lit up?( even when I shut it down for the night?
( I recently moved the computer around(unplugged it and restarted)

What kind of surface is it on?

Have you tried cleaning everything, making sure nothing is blocking the sensor on the bottom of the mouse?

Inspired_2write's avatar

Nothing blocking it.
Does it matter which slot I hook it into in the back ?

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t know! I don’t have any slots in the back of the mouse! But sure…try a different slot!

Inspired_2write's avatar

Slots in back of the drive tower (desk top computer).

Do you know why my modem lights are ALL on?
power,receive,send,online,pc/activity?
EVEN WHEN IT IS TURNED OFF AT NIGHT?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Because….you didn’t unplug it or turn it off? sounds like you need to talk to a tech.

Sounds like one or more failed or failing usb ports and/or a sick mouse. Suggest you borrow a mouse from someone and try it out on your computer. If it’s the mouse, you can get an inexpensive replacement.

Did you kink or pinch the mouse cord? If you did you may have damaged some of the wiring inside the cord which is causing the connection to break.

Inspired_2write's avatar

I did unplug the computer before turning it off.
The mouse cord is not damaged/twisted..looks OK to me.
This morning mouse working Ok now?
But still had all the lights on the modem on all night?
Is there a program that I don’t know about running on my computer?
If so how can I locate ?

The mouse issue sounds like @Pachyderm_In_The_Room nailed it. If you’re computer savvy I’d inspect the USB ports closely for any bent pins or damage, e.g., looking as though it’s burnt.

Is the modem lights blinking or solid? Blinking is normal for, Send, Receive, Internet & PC/activity.

Inspired_2write's avatar

@Axemusica
lights are solid except for pc activity light always flashing.

Leans over to see which of my modem lights are blinking.

Is there a possibility that a program is running (spam)?

I’m not sure what your exact modems signals of operation are. I’d look up your modem at the manufactures web site or contact your ISP for normal means of operation. Background application(s) could result in PC/Activity if they require the use of the internet. I don’t think your modem is the problem. Although I have seen spyware, viruses, ect… cause mouse function to work improperly though.

My mouse is OK now.
Its just the modem lights stay on all the time? Is that normal?

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’d say your modem is possessed. “GET OUT!”

Axemusica's avatar

@Inspired_2write I’d say it is normal, but like I said I’m not familiar with your modem or it’s functions at all. Google the make and model or contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to see about it’s functionality.

@Axemusica
Thanks.
But it was not doing this before I moved it?
Also installed a web cam.
