We should have a Fluther meet up in downtown San Diego during Comic Con week right?

Asked by pleiades (6617points) May 13th, 2013

It’s become beyond popular to the point where even if there isn’t a booth represented by a certain company, that certain company does meet ups in restaurants and their fans just go there. I think it’d be awesome to have a Fluther meet up. Would anyone be down?

You must be very rich. The motel and restaurant rates are their all time highest the weeks before, during and after Comic Con. The entire city is filled with CCers.

Well, I couldn’t afford to go, but I would encourage others to meet up if they can. Sounds like fun!

OK, the best way to have a meet-up is to announce the date, time and place. You go and see how many others show up.

Or, he already lives in San Diego.

I also couldn’t afford to go, or have the time to go, but I think the biggest issue is how so many jellies value their anonymity. Many refuse to share their first name, or a picture of themselves, or what city they live in. So, meeting in person might not be something they’d consider.

I have very little reservation about revealing my own identity, but others don’t seem to share that sentiment.

My husband apparently has friends in San Diego. When is it? I’ll probably have a place to crash, and if the flight isn’t too expensive, we might swing it if we have time to save for it. We need a vacation. And Comic Con is kind of @Seek_Kolinahr mecca.

Probably not, not affordable for me. My family is heading to the Sacramento area in June I believe, so I may be close.

@KNOWITALL Sacramento is 500 miles from San Diego. Comic Con will be July 18 – 21 but most people arrive a week early, or stay over an extra week to see the sights in S.D.

I have a 0% chance of attending.

Anyways, if anybody plans on making this thing happen, then it is going to take a lot of effort and planning, starting now.

Sounds like fun, but I won’t make it. How about come down my way instead. Come off season so the rates are not too high. We could meet at Disney? I live less than 2 hours away. Season is just about to start now, but there is a lull in November before Thanksgiving. Cold weather is starting to come in up north. Actually, January is an inexpensive time in FL, and it is freezing in the rest of the country. If you like the FL idea after Labor day is off season also if you want to do it sooner rather than later. Just know September is very hot and hurricanes happen on that month.

Wanna meet up in my pants? ~

Please not Disney… Universal, I’ll do. Maybe Epcot, if we must bring that danged mouse into it.

JLeslie's avatar

Epcot is Disney. I think you mean Magic Kingdom. We can just do Busch Gardens, I bought a Fun Pass this year. Universal is fine too.

Seek's avatar

I know Epcot is Disney. I’m saying Epcot is the only Disney park I’m willing to spend time and money at. I have no desire to spend all day standing in a line with no alcohol in sight.

JLeslie's avatar

LOL. I had no idea the other parks at Disney have no alcohol. Most of my favorite rides are at EPCOT anyway. I try to go when there are very few lines.

It’s in mid July. My wife’s sister lives in San Diego, along with her two grown kids. My wife’s been bugging me to go out there. I’ll see if that’s a good time for all involved. Should we set up a MeetUp.com group, or is there already one.

I know this sounds fickle, but if I went to a comic con, I’d ditch you guys in a flat second if I saw either Benedict Cumberbatch or Patrick Stewart.

Seek's avatar

Uh , yeah. Me too. Obvi.
