What Are my Options for Getting My iPhone Activated?

Asked by gambitking (4206points) May 15th, 2013

I just received a used iPhone 3GS from a friend. It’s got an AT&T SIM card in it, and it only shows me the “plug me into iTunes” animation on the screen.

What are my options as far as getting this thing turned on? I don’t want a contract, and I’d like to move my number from Verizon to this phone. I consider myself tech savvy, but mobile phone service and activation, etc. is not my thing, so thanks for any help.

This may help. Note that it does say you’ll want to have your new SIM card ready to go before starting the procedure.

Yeah that’ll be a useful resource if I need to unlock the phone, thanks @Fred931

you can buy a Net-10 sim card or Straight talk and activate thru them and insert the micro sim card in your iphone. many retailers sell the Net-10 sim pack, but straight talk is only available thru their website
