Is there anything new similar to Sweatin' To the Oldies?

Asked by Supacase (14563points) May 26th, 2013

Is there anything out there that is comparable to the Richard Simmons exercise videos from the 80s?

I know he is a stereotypical ‘joke’ but I have always believed he has a good heart and sincerely wants to help people. He created programs that people of any size could do and feel good about themselves. You really could do it at your own level without being obvious. Plus, they were secretly kind of fun.

So, anything equivalent around today?

That was really, really funny @gailcalled. Would Billy Blanks fill the bill?

I know of a Christian program called Revelation Wellness . I just got their DVD. There’s also Walk Away the Pounds

@gailcalled I can just see that core being strengthened!

I have the Walk Away the Pounds VCR tape, @Judi. Complete with stretchy bands. LOL I actually did the routine when we were living outside of DC.

I’m going thru the motions of the P90X…..I’m too young to remember Sweating With that old guy you’re talking about…..

@DPJake, I think you’re right. p90X is probably the new “Sweatin’ to the Oldies.”

Sounds like you could make some money with that idea.

If you were talking about a program that is as popular today as Richard’s was back then…I don’t think there is a contest. It has to be “Zumba”.

P90X is a great program, but it is not a dance video, per se. Zumba is more reminiscent of Richard’s work…amped up and salsifed…lol!

Jazzercise was Zumba before there was Zumba, and Aerobics was Jazzercise before there was Jazzercise.

Remember Slimnastics?

bkcunningham's avatar

I don’t remember Slimnastics, @Judi. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of it though. I have tried every workout routine known to man. My stepdaughter wants me to go with her to Curves. I’ve done it before. She hasn’t. But we are going to start next week.

it was popular in the 70’s and was basically calisthenics to music. It was a new concept back then
