What is the prison sentence for felony murder?

Asked by Julietxx3 (712points) July 1st, 2013

What is the average prison sentence for felony murder in New Jersey? Does it depend on each trial or case? Or does it differ when other charges are involved? This question if referring to someone of the age of 18. So that would be considered an adult trial right?

Thanks for your responses in advance!

I don’t know what the average sentence is, but the maximum sentence is life in prison and up to $200,000 in fines. And yes, it does vary from case to case, crime to crime, judge to judge.

Here is some information on Felony Murder in New Jersey.

Here is a statement from another attorney’s web page, which indicates that the minimum sentence is 30 years.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that a conviction will result in 30 years of imprisonment, but that’s the sentence, apparently.

I can’t help you if you’re planning on murdering someone. If you are then the murder become a special circumstance because you asked the question here. The penalty could be as high as a death sentence.

30 to life I think, though there can also be a mandory 30 years without parole. I don’t know if “30 to life” means potential for parole sooner or not.

Well, if you’re a cop, obviously your sentence is a paid vacation….
