What should we serve at a Relay for Life 24 hour run/walk?

Asked by WestRiverrat (20117points) July 16th, 2013

There will be water and sports drinks available, the local fast food stores are providing breakfast, the meat locker is donating hotdogs for lunch. Grocery stores are providing sandwiches for the evenings.

The event will go from 6pm Friday to 6PM or later Saturday. I have the midnight to 6am shift. What would you want to snack on if you were up all night walking or running and had another 12–18 hours to go?

It is going to be hot so popsicles and frozen juice cubes were what came to my mind first. I want to keep to things that can be eaten while walking without too much mess.

I’m thinking you will want nutrient dense, especially protein dense, easy to carry snack foods. This is what I would suggest:

Fresh Spring Rolls

Veggie Wraps

Individual Veggie Cups with Dip

Breakfast Burritos

granola that you could pour into a little yogurt cup

Cold showers.
