How would you ”urbanize” familiar children classics?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) July 17th, 2013

What titles would you choose for updating and urbanizing children’s classics, for instance “Snow White And The Seven Pimps”, “Jack and the Crack Pipe”, etc.

Lil Red, Ridin in Da Hood.

Why would you do that?

One of the problems that I see in our civilization is a reflexive rejection of tradition and ritual.

Without them, there is no reason for each generation to cherish their past or their posterity.

Which means that each generation is excessively self absorbed and disconnected to the continuum of history.

Which is not a rational point of view, since every generation is tied to their past and their future, whether it serves their selfish whim or not.

So why do that?

What do you mean by ”urbanize”

I live in a big city. I don’t know any pimps or crack smokers.

Why urbanize? They are beautiful as they are.

@josie Why would you do that?
Playing Devil’s advocate; because one chooses to.

One of the problems that I see in our civilization is a reflexive rejection of tradition and ritual.
Many believe they are bad and thus reject tradition and such anyhow.

Without them, there is no reason for each generation to cherish their past or their posterity.
They can modernize them and maybe cherish them better, as it will speak more to them than old stories from their parent’s or grandparent’s time.

Which means that each generation is excessively self absorbed and disconnected to the continuum of history.
That ship has sailed already. It has been ”All About Me” for decades, and getting worse.

Which is not a rational point of view, since every generation is tied to their past and their future,
whether it serves their selfish whim or not.
When it is about I want it all and I want it now, I want it all and I don’t care how, many things in the past of a generation is expendable if it doesn’t support the Me now philosophy.

So why do that?
Because this is the USA and for the time being anyone has the Constitution right to do as they please, when it is not harming anyone.

@anartist Why urbanize? They are beautiful as they are.
Because:
• Songs are remade with a different beat or for a different generation.
• One has the right to do so, so long as they are not plagiarizing.
• Fun.
• It is a fluff question that doesn’t need that much thought to answer.
