Can we talk about women's razors?

Asked by Aesthetic_Mess (7894points) August 1st, 2013

Why are there so many? How much variety can there be to shave off some leg and armpit hair?
There are two blades, three blades, four blades. Some with moisture strips and some with just a plastic bar. There are disposables and reusables with cartridges.
I know the reason for a variety of feminine hygiene products, but hair cannot be that different that we need so many varieties of razors.
What’s the reason for this?

Money feeding on insecurity.

No different to all the razors available for blokes, variations in skin types, & value for money being just two reasons why.

Men have just as many options.

Razors made for women are shit. I use a men’s razor and it works much better.

I completely agree with @livelaughlove21—I’ve yet to find a razor for women that comes close to even the cheapest razor for men. As to the number of options . . . there are fewer choices among razors than fingernail polish. It’s all designed to keep you searching for the holy grail of [fill in the blank].

It’s to make money. There are many options for men too. I personally like the cheapest 2 blade razors the best to shave my man-face. My wife brought home an expensive battery powered 4 blade that was just plain lousy.

The expensive ones really do have better blades. Although, even still we are being ripped off. The proft margins must be incredible.

@JLeslie, they’ve got us by the short hairs ;-)

Gilette is actually cited as having a stroke of brilliance with their idea of giving away or selling a very cheap razor with replaceable heads. Selling the blade refills for a lot of money and creating string brand loyalty in the meantime.

I have yet to find a razor that gives a close shave. It’s ridiculous.

@Aesthetic_Mess Have you tried the Venus shaver? I think they are pretty good.

I use the Venus ones, and really like them. @livelaughlove21 and @picante, my husband would disagree with both of you. When we were dating, he had to use my Venus razor once and was awed by it. He couldn’t believe how much better it was designed than the men’s razors he’d always used. He has a Venus of his own, now. :p

@augustlan I used Venus until I found the men’s Shick Hydro 5. Never went back.

Looks interesting. I’ll be sure to check it out next time I’m looking for a new one.
