Does the admin of a Facebook group I belong to have access to my Timeline and personal photos?

Asked by Gelatinous_zooplankton (26points) August 15th, 2013

I was curious if the admins to groups I belong to on Facebook have access to my posts and photos like a Facebook friend would?

My privacy settings are set for only friends to have access to my posts and photographs. It is not set for public viewing.

A good rule of thumb is not to post anything you wouldn’t want published in your local paper If there is anything even remotely objectionable I’d remove it.

In short, assume your employer reads everything. It’s a paranoia that has done me well.

@Gelatinous_zooplankton Welcome to Fluther.

@Rarebear is so right. Leaving things lying on a busy sidewalk in central Manhattan is a more secure hiding place than the Internet. Don’t put anything on the Internet that you wouldn’t want found and traced to you. I know I post some salacious things about myself, but it’s because they aren’t crimes and I don’t care if people know the truth about me. It helps a lot that I am self employed, so my boss is very understanding.

Those that can’t handle what I post can go elsewhere for their Internet reading, or have a hissy-fit. I really don’t care. If you do care, be circumspect.

I’m not ashamed of anything I post. I rarely post anything more than a few photos.

I would just like to know what type of access the admins have.

No, they don’t.

I know this from personal experience with a group. Unless you friend them, all they can see are your public posts. That’s it.

I am the admin for 2 separate pages. I just checked the list of people who like the pages. I clicked on some who are not on my friends list.

Yes, I could see their photos and such. However, I don’t know what privacy settings those individuals were using.

@Gelatinous_zooplankton Welcome to Fluther. This is a great question, and you have a great user name.

Good question!! Its depend on your setting & sites. Admin have all rights to check the images which are loaded in their pages. But I don’t think so they have much more time to check everyone profile & their pictures personally. There are lots of user who are using such media & Many of them upload uncountable images daily so it is not possible.
But still, if you are very conscious about your pictures so never upload any picture, which you don’t want to share.

Don’t forget that the admins of Facebook itself can view everything and share it with their “corporate sponsors” regardless of your privacy settings. That’s part of the TOS you agree to when you make an account on Facebook.

You are not Facebook’s customer. Their customers are the businesses that purchase your data. You, and the content you upload, are a commodity.

Sure does. That agreement to terms you click on when you first join basically says that. I ha a friend who smokes a lot of dope and as a result has developed an exaggerated amount of paranoia that the government is plotting against him so before he could join Facebook he actually read those terms. Who does that? Apparently he does. He refused to be spied on by Facebook. Weird dude. Personally, there are so many millions of profiles, what are the odds that of all those profiles out there, yours just happens to be the one that the admins take special interest in? I think you should rest soundly on it. There’s no need to worry.
