Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?

Asked by Michael_Huntington (15982points) August 18th, 2013

Their early work was a little too ‘new-wave’ for my taste, but when “Sports” came out in ‘83, I think they really came into their own – both commercially and artistically.

Nice to hear from you again Mr. Bateman, it’s been a while. How have you been?

I thought Huey Lewis had died.

@josie Do you think soldiers are heroes? is crafting a response? Just checking that you haven’t had a heart attack.

< 80s girl, kind of obligated to like them. I even saw them in concert, haha.

I Want a New Drug was perfect for 1983 San Francisco, so many of us in our twenties coming down from cocaine binges.

Huey Lewis and the News were great for their time and place, as so many bands have been.

As Huey Lewis has pointed out, Sports was made in an age of radio, so it has a lot of hit singles.

Sports was a fine album, and while I don’t own any CD’s by them, I don’t change the station when they are on.

Lol, I love American Psycho. But no, I’m not a huge fan of them. Too bland.

It’s hip to be square.

Did they change the world? Nope.

Did they describe the world at the time? Yeah, absolutely.

I’m down with Huey and the News.

I was never a fan. I was listening to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Billy Idol and Prince back in the 80s.

@jonsblond Take the Peppers out of that lot & you’re bang on the money, Depeche Mode have always been my fave band.

I once read somewhere that Huey Lewis & The News were just a ‘pretty good bar band who got lucky’. But when I compare their number of Top 40 hits to mine, well….

In the late 80s I drove about an hour each way to take our teenage daughter and her friend to a Depeche Mode concert at Jones Beach Theater in New York. She said that she was so happy to be there that she cried for the first 30 minutes of the show.

To this day, she still thanks me for all of that driving and finding things to do for three hours while they were at the concert….

Huey was okay but The News were a bunch of dicks.
