What is the best program to use to make fonts?

Asked by bridold (638points) June 20th, 2008

I’ve always wanted to try and make my own fonts, but I don’t know where to start. What is the best program to use? How much does that program cost? Can you get a program that makes fonts for free?

I think that the one I used was called fontographer

I am unaware of free ones, but they have a demo version.

Here’s a fun how-to, with recommendations as well. I’m wary of downloading freebies, might have adware or worse imbedded.

There is a pretty cool free online font maker called FontStruct. Check it out.

FontLab, but you will have to learn it properly + i’d recommend you to read some books on Typography and lettering, check out Amazon.

@rouss I’ve taken classes for my major on Typography – I have so many books it’s out of control.
