Is it rude to tell a celebrity he is your second favorite?

Asked by lovelessness (659points) August 21st, 2013

If you met your all time crush and you just don’t know what to say, so you just say he is your second favorite actor. Would he be annoyed? I personally think it’s funny and original. But I want to know what ya’ll think! :) Cheers.

Your “all time crush?” How old are we in this scenario?

It depends on the celebrity. If he enjoys fan girls who can barely talk around him, I’m sure he’d laugh and take it as a compliment.

You could just use “one of my favourite actors”.

I rarely know what to say when meeting new people, but their place on a Top Five list probably wouldn’t be the first thing that springs to mind.

Hi, pass me a beer, would you? Hey, you look a lot like Bruce Campbell, anyone ever told you that?

lovelessness's avatar

I mean, @livelaughlove21 celebrity crush. I sent a msg to you saying who I met.

If the person is truly a celebrity, there is a good chance that he/she has an ego the size of Australia. (for you geographically impaired people, that means pretty damned huge).

So you telling him/her that he/she is your 2nd favorite will be like one raindrop in a hurricane – it won’t amount to anything.

Go ahead and be as rude as you want.

I think it’s OK, but be prepared to tell him who has beaten him out.

lovelessness's avatar

He is an A list hollywood star.

lovelessness's avatar

@marinelife I wish. he didnt even ask!

Seek's avatar

This question just smacks of a super excited fan just ACHING to tell everyone who she met.

*edit: gods I hate autocorrect.

So you give him a funny story to tell at your expense the next time he is on Letterman.

It’s actually pretty rude. “You’re one of my favorites” or “I just love your acting” is polite and still gets your point across.

It also reminds me of the episode of Friends in which Ross meets Isabella Rossilini about five minutes after cutting her off his “hall pass” list.

@Seek_Kolinahr

I wasn’t shouting “YOURE MY FAV SECOND ACTOR” and crying of joy lol. I was very calm and all. I shook his hand, etc.

@zenvelo I just didn’t want to sound like everybody else. I also wanted to be honest. I guess it’s rude hahah

Seek's avatar

So, did you actually meet this person, or just shake their hand as they walked by a crowd of fawning fans? By that I mean, is this person likely to remember you if you ever run into them at the supermarket?

lovelessness's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr Crowd was like 5 people. And maybe, who knows. But he seemed to be heavily on drugs! So I don’t think he’d remember much? I don’t know what he took, but he seemed so out of it!

Seek's avatar

If the former, who cares? They don’t. If the latter, you have small talk fodder for the yogurt aisle.

lovelessness's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr Haha it’s always a trick to get a celebrity’s attention without being thought of “one of the million fans.”

He probably paid no attention to anything anyone said.

ucme's avatar

Nah, I guarantee they don’t give a shit about you, nods & smiles.

lovelessness's avatar

@ucme Idk why but that makes me feel so much better about myself!

ucme's avatar

@lovelessness So it should, celebrities are lame buggers anyway.

bunnyslippers's avatar

If I was a celebrity I’d think it was funny, but then I’m not and my current frame of reference doesn’t have people coming up to me all the time to say how much they love me. So I guess I have no clue, but I don’t think it sounds rude.
