Should Facebook have a dislike button like Youtube?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23626points) August 22nd, 2013

Sometimes when I see a status or a video, a photo, a comment… which is too “disgusting” for me to bear, I just wish there were a dislike button so that I can dislike it. Do you think there should be a dislike button for Facebook?

No, there is too much negativity and disapproval in the world now. If you don’t like it, ignore it.

Who cares if someone dislikes something? It’s not necessary and only gives bad vibes.

So why do Youtube has the dislike button?

@Mimishu1995 So that the inarticulate can express displeasure, like people who know how to write. It makes them feel empowered.

Reddit has a down-vote button. If you click it you won’t see what you down-voted again. I would like that on Facebook. It doesn’t have to be noted in anyway except that I never want to see it again. The current system for blocking content is a mess.

Fucking hell, it can’t even remember that I always want to see most recent things posted. I assume there is a monetary reason for this.

Facebook has plenty of settings to let me remove what I don’t want to see. When you hover over the right hand corner of a post a small arrow will appear. Click on that and you’ll see “I don’t want to see this”. Click on “I don’t want to see this” and it will ask you why you don’t want to see it. The following options are given:

1. It’s annoying or not interesting
2. I think it shouldn’t be on Facebook
3. It’s spam.

Once you choose from the three it will ask you if you want to block all posts from that person or page, or if you want to block the person.

I think this is better than a dislike button and the person will never know you didn’t like their post.

It would probably be abused, but yes, actually, I wish they had a dislike button. That way all of those morons that post bullshit about Obama and “his” “commie” government, and other BS rumors, could clearly see that they are in the vast minority. Perhaps they could even see that they’re being stupid! Having 0 likes for their posts just isn’t getting through to them.

Public opinion is a strong influence.

@Dutchess_III You consider some of your fb friends morons? Why are you friends with morons?

They are relatives.

I don’t think Facebook needs a dislike button for people to know that someone hates their shit. :D

I want a facepalm button….

@Symbeline Yeah, they do. Getting 0 “likes” (but no comments) just doesn’t sink in, whereas 50 “dislikes” would.
