What is the essence of life?

Asked by Gifted_With_Languages (1143points) September 3rd, 2013

I was wondering what is the true essence of life.
Is it wisdom ? Power ?
It’s my personal belief that the essence of life is to live and let others live, to smile and to make others smile, to fulfill one’s duty and to cherish the dreams to be realized in this life.

What are your impressions on it?

Thank you very much.

I am Life therefore I will Live.
In Living I will Love, for Love is the essence of all Living.

The Love given in Living will be reciprocated back to me from all the Living.
And since Living is far greater than Dead, I will lack nothing in Loving.

Loving my neighbor as myself is the essence of my Life.

There isn’t an essence of life which is universal. We all have our own proclivities and values, and the essence of life to my sister, for example, is probably not the same as mine.

I know several people for whom knowledge – the pursuit of learning, was their essence. This was to the detriment of friends, family, relationships, etc. But that was their guiding light.

I’m different – I’m one of those people who feels that moderation – the middle ground, no extremes, in anything.is the best guide.

There are no absolutes. No universal truths.

You live and you die and hopefully you find some personal purpose and happiness in between.

Word is essential for life. An essential is an essence.

The word begins with your 6 billion letter novel of DNA. It instructs the universe on how to build you before you even exist. It follows all the rules of conventional language with sentence, paragraph, and chapter forms. It satisfies all known communication protocols.

Without it, life is impossible.

The word continues to be expressed and essential for quality of life. It’s how we express ourselves. It does not have to be vocal, or written. It could be the peacock spreading feathers to express mating desire, or the hair of a dog standing to express danger. The Word is the dance of a bumble bee explaining where the pollen is. The Word is a thoughtful question expressed, and answered on Fluther.

Without it, life is meaningless.

The essence of life is pizza. Your family lays down the crust, giving you a foundation to build on. You put down the sauce, your growth as a person and becoming self aware. Then as you learn to care for and be cared for by others you put down the cheese. And if you really do a good job and learn to help others you get the special toppings. I just can’t figure out how anchovies fit into that analogy.

A problem arises when you go looking for an “essence” of life. This assumes that life is separable into essential and non-essential. This sets you off in a search for some special something at the core of your being and makes you dismiss the rest as extraneous or dispensable. This is a common enough way of looking at things, but it’s also the cause of much confusion and anxiety.

The fact is that it’s all essence. You can only see that when you stop mentally dividing life into parts. You get at essence not by looking for some diamond among the rubble, but by seeing that the whole thing is the diamond.

Stay busy, get plenty of exercise, and don’t drink too much. Then again, don’t drink too little.

Why?

Because alcohol is necessary for a man so that he can have a good opinion of himself, undisturbed be the facts.

@thorninmud yeah, that’s what I said meant.
