What causes this video related problem and can it be fixed with the following?

Asked by flo (13313points) September 7th, 2013

Most of the time you can start videos wherever you want, but once in a while, on some videos it just snaps back to the beginning so you have to drag it while clicking to where you want it to go, if your’re lucky. Sometimes even that doesn’t work you have to go through the whole video. Is there something similar to the “refresh” function that would fix it, I just wanted to go to 1:10:30 point.

I’m watching / listening on Chrome, so your browser may perform differently. But if I drag the timer indicator to any point in the playtime, and keep my mouse cursor on the gray bar I can make the player start anywhere I want, when I release the cursor on the gray bar.

It very much depends on the player that the web site is using to present the video.
On top of that if there is some compatibility issue between your browser, or the version of the browser, and the video player they use then you can get the symptoms you describe.

Best solution is usually to make sure your browser is up-to-date.
Another option is to install another browser and try that… e.g. if you are having the issue using internet explorer you could try installing firefox or chrome or opera and it’s possible one of those will do the right thing.

Your link works with the firefox browser (old! 3.6.24) I am using right now, aok, I can play any part by clicking on that bit in the progress bar.

I released the cursor on the grey bar too, but it kept snapping back yesterday. A few minutes a go as well. Just a min ago though it worked perfectly for some reason.
