northern california or southern california? do you have a particular city in mind? I have attended a number of beautiful weddings in northern california near san francisco, no idea what they paid for it...but probably pretty reasonable. There are some lovely places to have a small ceremony and reception on Mount Tamalpais, with stunning views of the Bay Area.

We had our wedding at the Albion River Inn in Mendocino-- about 45 people (planned @ 65) -- was awesome and surprisingly cheap for the area.

Send me a message and I'll give you more info =)

I'm not sure what qualifies as "cheap" for you, but I think the Brazilian Room in the Berkeley Hills (Tilden Park) is reasonable.

Look up "wedding celebrant" usually people licensed by the state that will for a small fee (in Virginia $30) meet you where ever you want and marry you - the top of your favorite elevator, mountain or stairs... Spend the money on the honeymoon!

I know someone who got married on the Golden Gate bridge...they just walked out onto the bridge with 25 friends/family and had an amazingly picturesque ceremony--but there's definitely no room for chairs! You have to be willing to have a quick ceremony (but with the best view ever)

Northern California

OCC - Creative idea about the Golden Gate bridge. Thats one of a kind.

My friend had a beach wedding in Pajaro Dunes, near Santa Cruz. We got married in Mt Hermon chapel in Scotts Valley. All are very reasonable prices.

Southern California...San Diego..Marina area..spectacular sunsets views of the harbor.

Forgot to add...there are a lot of creative places in the guide called "Here comes the guide"....I know they have northern california locations. I would imagine they would have other regional areas.

The creative places I found through this guide a decade ago....

Seascapes Resort (south of Santa Cruz)
Shadowbrook (Soquel, California) to name a few

Have you ever looked into
www.sbpoolparties.com ?
Very inexpensive outdoor venue for both ceremony and reception. Located in Southern California (Highland to be exact)
