To me, nothing is more beautiful and relaxing then watching the sunset.

@Valerie111 You found my backyard.

I’m not a particularly religious person. However this poem has helped me immeasurably since my brother died.

“Family Chain”

We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved your dearly,
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.

@Hawaii_Jake You’re lucky! I would love to have a view like that at home. My area is all surrounded by trees.

” Their is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed laws of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved. ”

My sister was at the Frick museum today and said “Show brought tears to my eyes.Spectacular… about ’‘Girl with a Pearl Earring. and fourteen other works from the Dutch Golden age. Three more Vermeers, four Rembrandts, a FrRans Hals, a Jan Steen and a van Ruisdael.

If anyone is in or near NYC, this is a once-in-a-lifetime display of paintings on loan from the Mauritshuts. “While the prestigious Dutch museum undergoes an extensive two-year renovation, it is lending masterpieces that have not traveled in nearly thirty years”

@gailcalled I LOVE Vermeer! My favorite painting by Vermeer is This One

Of course it is, she’s in a kitchen

This just happened for the first time in 95 years.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@gailcalled I have seen one Vermeer in my life. I will search the Internet for it later. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find since there are so few of his paintings.

This one painting was in an exhibition in San Francisco. It was more than 20 years ago, and I still distinctly recall being moved emotionally. It was exquisite.

^^ Thirty-four paintings that everyone agrees are genuine Vermeers. Another thirty or so that might be (but probably not.) So tickling your memory should not be difficult.

@Smitha Very nice. We don’t often get to see it, and it often happens slower than depicted here, but it really does work that way. These actors are showing us how to make our world the place we want it to be. There is no downside, really. Thanks.

I watched this yesterday. It’s beautiful.

^^ What a lovely way to start my day. Thank you.

@thorninmud :Awwh!! So Cute!! That baby is so adorable, she was really enjoying Mamas singing, and exhibiting emotions way beyond her years. Thanks for sharing!

These guys were herded up the road from a local farmer to my sister’s upper field for some new pasturage several days ago. They will stay until they need a barn for the night. A charming sight to come upon; I think of my sister’s and my childhood in a commuting suburb of NYC and I have to laugh.

@gailcalled What a beautiful photo and wonderful cows.

We went to a pumpkin patch on a farm yesterday so I got to see a bunch of animals and hear a lot of baaaaahing and honking and clucking. It was wonderful.

My daughter released her second album a few weeks ago and it is at the top of the charts across Canada for the Folk/Roots Genre. I’m so proud of her and I think her music is beautiful. Have a listen to a few samples and tell me if it qualifies as beautiful.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

Yes, @Dr_Lawrence , her music is quite beautiful, and you are rightfully proud. Congratulations!

I hope that you find this story beautiful….

Last night around 9:30, a close friend of mine who lives on Long Island was taking his trash to the street. A young girl about 8 years old approached in costume with her mother trailing her in the car. The girl asked “Can I still say ‘trick or treat?’

My friend said they were all out of candy, so just gave her (what he thought was) a dollar. Her mother said “Sorry, I know that it’s late, but I work two jobs and promised her that she could go out trick-or-treating when I got home”.

About five minutes later, my friend’s doorbell rings, and it’s the mother and daughter. The mother says “Sir, I’m sure that this was a mistake” and tries to hand back to my friend a hundred-dollar bill.

My friend was shocked, but then said to the little girl…

“Wow, you’re right….I really screwed-up, didn’t I ?? Listen, sweetheart, how about you keep it anyway, and split it with your mom….”

It was an expensive mistake for my friend, but it bought a great story that the little girl and her mother can tell for the rest of their days….

Ah, @OneBadApple, that brightens my heart and lightens my day. Beautiful.

Mine too, Jake. Thank you.

I’ve loved this guy like a brother since 1965, and what he did came as no surprise to me at all…

stanleybmanly's avatar

@MadMadMax I’ve seen this one before, and yet coming across it unexpectedly has an effect on me that’s close to startling.

stanleybmanly's avatar

For all of you who love Vermeer, are you aware of this?. From what I’ve seen, it appears to be an extraordinary film on a first rate piece of detective work.

My offer was not appreciated. :( without a reason.

stanleybmanly's avatar

You’re kidding. I remember it was a sensation at Askville. I was new to this site when you posted it here. More likely than not, a great many of the regulars here never saw your posting. I was completely unaware until you called my attention to it.

Kardamom's avatar

@MadMadMax I just looked, she’s beautiful!

MadMadMax's avatar

Thanks. I have a huge print on black matting with a gold and black frame. I think of her as Titania sleeping under a spell.

The image of the nude is so delicious that objectivity is hazarded. I couldn’t have it around for fear of making a fool of myself. I prefer the portraits.
