What is on your to-do list this weekend?

Asked by filmfann (52225points) November 2nd, 2013

We have a white board in the kitchen, and I have detailed 11 things so far that I need to do around the house. There is no way I can do them all, since several would take an entire weekend by themselves.
What is on your to-do list?
Do you ever put small jobs on your list? (Like take out the garbage)
Do you ever put fun things on your list? (Like go to the movies)
How much time do you schedule for relaxing?

Today I am going to the Container Store to see different organzing products for the house and then meeting up with my fellow Spartan alumni to watch MSU play UM.

Tomorrow we might go to a car show to raise money for a charity that helps feed people for Thanksgiving and through the holidays.

Clean house, pay bills, maybe catch a movie. That’s enough for me. haha

At the end of week 5 of my knee rehab, I am adding a trip to the library to my drive to the Post Office…similar to climbing Mt. Everest. Then it’s the usual 2x daily exercises, ice and collapse.

On Friday, the physical therapist added a 1-lb. weight to the ankle of the operated leg, in case I was getting too complaisant.

I watched an interesting movie, Ronin at 2:00 AM this morning—with a stellar cast including Robert De Niro but I fell asleep 15 minutes before it ended.

@gailcalled That is a good time to fall asleep. Ronin was a good movie with a stupid, unsatisfying end.

Lately, the most important thing on my weekend list is to distance myself as much as possible from the ongoing stress at my job. I don’t generally have a literal list, but usually on the weekends I catch up on laundry and household chores, finish my homework for my class, and do some reading “for fun” (not school reading, in other words).

Other than that, I might catch a movie (if my budget allows), but I don’t preplan a lot of stuff. Having a lot on my schedule, even fun plans, tends to make me feel I have no free time to myself before the weekend has even started. I much prefer to have someone call me up an hour or two ahead of time and ask me if I want to do such and such.

Practice writing positive things about myself.
Put positive writing practice into action on my elance.com profile.
Figure out how to make a bank give me a checking account (it probably involves throwing money I can’t afford to part with into an old hole) so I can accept money from people on the interwebs. This will probably be more a next-week thing.
Finish off the six homemade craft/painting aprons I’m working on. The ties are the worst, so I’ve been saving that job up. I never know what’s long enough, what’s too long, and turning them inside out is a bear.
Hit Home Depot for some solder, so I can start on some nifty shotgun shell jewelry.
Fill out paperwork necessary to withdraw my son from public school. Enough’s enough.

In no particular order…

- Buy a new 3-way light bulb
– See a movie (either “About Time” or “Captain Phillips”
– Finish editing a video
– Go to gym
– Do laundry
– Treat myself to a really good restaurant meal at least once (‘cause I’m sick of my own cooking)
– Reset clocks

… and thanks to the time change, I’ve got a whole extra hour to do it.

Finish putting plastic film over the windows
Attempt to install some weather stripping under my front door
A load of laundry or two
Write for 10 hours or so

Oh yeah – and set the clocks back an hour.

The laundry…..it’s always the damned laundry!! Every Saturday. And this weekend, it’s set the clocks back as well. And, I shouldn’t forget – I have to package up for shipping the stuff that’s selling on eBay. Otherwise, it’s going to be a relaxing weekend – I need one of those after the last couple that were anything but relaxing.

I don’t schedule in time for relaxing.. I just screw off between tasks.
So far I helped my daughter as she completed a school project, planned our Sunday School craft/lesson for tomorrow and planned out the meals..the laundry just runs constantly. Seems like we run at least 3 loads a day around here, every day of the week.

It’s already mid-day Saturday..so next I’m off to buy some craft supplies and then I’ll start whipping up chili & cornbread for dinner.
In between there will be a lot of quilting.. Oh, and I have to prepare a Cub Scout meeting plan, too.
My hubby took our son & his friend to his parents’ house to help them hang a light, and I’m picking up my daughter’s friend so they can hang out this afternoon while I cook & bake in mass quantities.
Then more quilting.
Sunday will be teaching Sunday School and then going out to brunch to celebrate my MIL’s birthday. Then much much more quilting..and maybe some preparations for NEXT weekend’s Girl Scout meeting.

- Go see the movie “Bad Grandpa”
– Eat out at a Chinese restaurant tonight
– Visit the Arizona State Fair on Sunday
– Call my brother in California
– Answer some questions on Fluther
– Do a small amount of grocery shopping

Katniss's avatar

@Bluefreedom and @Valerie111 I want to see both of those movies. Let me know how they are, please. :0)

Valerie111's avatar

@Katniss Will do. Carrie looks really good. I wonder if it will be as scary as the original.

Bluefreedom's avatar

@Katniss. Bad Grandpa is the #1 movie in the country right now and Johnny Knoxville & the Jackass crew know how to do crazy comedy so I have a good feeling about this movie. The trailers looked hilarious.

Apply for a job and do some college work. I’m also going to the farmer’s market tomorrow as I do every Sunday.

Take all the towels out of the linen closet and decide which of the old ones to cycle out. I have to make space for some new ones.

I plan to give the old ones to an animal shelter. When we had to have our terminally ill cat put down, the animal shelter returned his body to us inside a box and nestled on a soft pink towel. They didn’t have to do that. It was a kind gesture of comfort to us when he was already gone. I thought then, when I have some old towels to donate, they’ll go here.

- Feed the cats

- Put the computer back together again after a hard drive failure. The old drive is still (mostly) readable, but copying the data added since my last backup is taking forever as error-checking slow data transfers down by ~90–99%.

- Feed the cats

- Sunday street market with the wife!

- Feed the cats

- Heal my semi-busted thumb

- I might feed the cats…

The only thing I have to worry about this weekend is the dishes, a few dirty clothes, feeding my family and the health of myself and my mom. This is a lazy weekend.
