Any former Askville members have a report on The Members We Left Behind?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) November 2nd, 2013

I’ve about run out of options for finding and inviting Askville members to join here at Fluther. I was too close with my email there. I’ve sent out feelers to every former Askville member that I can.

No , I’m hoping to see some of the old regulars but we didn’t have much of a chance to send anyone a PM did we ?
Good question ibstubro .
=)

Haven’t seen anything of TurboB,or TLW,be nice to see them here to.

@lx102303 There are a lot of the regulars here, but I was hoping (with this question) to root out others that have an email address saved in some file. Probably hopeless, but I’m eternally hopeFUL.

Most of the people I talk to are here. I miss Sasha. I liked AvalancheFan and CunningFox. They were smart and funny. There are definitely a few that I DON’T miss ;)

@ibstubro I was at work when they decided to pull the plug, and have no idea what she did,why was it overly rude or something?

I am really burned out on the damn us political front,it does concern me because 70% of all Canada’s trade is with the US,and have a couple of aunts that live in the US,but lately, just don’t drag Canada down if the US collapses OK??
But really tired of pointless arguing of it,just really hope that I never have to set foot in your country again,I will happily stay north of the border.

@Valerie111

Damn (not really) cunningfox for dropping out at the Change. Shasha was like a dependent sister. AvaFan gave it up because of the change in servers. If you have email for any, holler at them. I told LouLou that you miss her, and that she should join for email benefits alone. Time will tell.

I hope you find your peeps, but I hope you find a new home and new friends here.

ibstubro's avatar

Thanks, @Chyna. We’re finding new friends. Just miss the old ones.

@Valerie111 AvalancheFan? As in the hockey team? Oh nonononono! lol

I had send mails to avalanchefan, khajuria and PureHeartOfachild. avalanchefan told he might join soon and he was really excited when I said ibstubro was there! PHOC had just returned from America and she told she too would join soon. khajuria is busy with her studies, so she may join only after she completes her course.

Ok, so this is kind of a yiffy situation, but the former mod in me can’t keep it to herself.

We have a rule on Fluther – Naming names in posts is OK – as long as everything is positive. Negatively calling out another user is considered a personal attack, and those posts are moddable.

But, I’m not a current Mod, so I’m going to flag them, and let the A-Team handle it. I just can’t think that it would be cool for a former Askviller to join, and then find a thread telling them they’re not wanted.

Actually, TurboB does have a Fluther account. It goes by a different name. The only reason I know is because I clicked on a related question asking about the askville 16. I don’t know if she still uses it or if she even remembers the sign on info.

This is the question I found where she had commented: http://www.fluther.com/19670/have-you-or-your-friends-been-suspended-from-askville/

[Mod says] @Seek_Kolinahr raises a good point. Since we mods have no way of knowing which former AVers may or may not be Fluther members, we will have to remove any negative references.

I am wondering by cuz I just saw a former AVer friended me here (Im usually on FB)

ibstubro's avatar

@Smitha Goog for you! Although I think Avalanche was mostly on Askville because he could log on from work.

ibstubro's avatar

Thanks @flip86.

Seems that question mentioned Askville members in a unflattering way and was unmoderated, @Seek_Kolinahr.

I guess “I do admit that I had in the past harrassed members” pretty much covered it, anyway.

Seek's avatar

That was five years ago. Moderation standards have changed for the better.

ibstubro's avatar

Good, @Seek_Kolinahr…the moderation at Askville was generally poor. They eve stopped enforcing the 3 strikes rule discussed in that question. I musta had 15, 20 strikes. The moderation was so poor that sometimes the only way to get a post removed was to break a rule, get a strike, and have the whole bit taken down.

ibstubro's avatar

Oh, and I’m Jonesin4burgers! She’ll NEVER find us here!

Katniss's avatar

Does this mean there could be some refugees on the way who are going to bring the drama? lol

kritiper's avatar

I’d like to see Rhine44 here.

ibstubro's avatar

It’s possible @Katniss, but not really likely.

Askville had these warring factions, mostly based on conservative vs liberal political views that carried over into every aspect. The leaders of both factions were actually really nice people that I got along with on a personal basis well. Both warned me about the other.

One of the biggest shit-stirrers is actually a pretty well known (and liked?) member of Fluther now. I think it was just the chemistry combined with haphazard moderators.

Careful, @Smitha, you don’t want to defame a former Askville member that could now be a current Fluther.

I used to get a kick out of clicking the ‘dislike’ button on a certain Askvillians inane questions seemingly taken from a 50 year old 2nd grade joke book. Obese people with as many chins as a Chinese phone book, indeed.

Bleh. Spit.

Smitha's avatar

@ibstubro I did not mean to defame him, actually I never used to take it seriously. After all everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

ibstubro's avatar

I was joking, @Smitha. :)

Well, it took me a while, but I DID find my way here. I’m looking forward to making new friendships, but I’m so glad to see familiar names. I too will be disappointed if there won’t be Avalanchfan, but I CANNOT function without my Stubro fix. I’ve been hopping around trying to set my follows. Am I the only one to click FOLLOW YOURSELF? Wow, what a page that turns up! Thanks for helping me get here, sir.

Mitsu_Neko's avatar

@Jonesn4burgers no I do it on occasion when I am bored. :D

ibstubro's avatar

Well, YEE HAW! There’s @Jonesn4burgers!!

See, even getting in here was easier than Askville was.
