Are there any songs you have on endless repeat?

Asked by Haleth (18947points) November 15th, 2013

Certain songs I’ve come across lately sound completely… new. They’re not doing anything breathtaking in terms of using new media or creating whole new genres. It’s more like they’re quietly combining existing sounds in creative ways to create something nobody has heard before.

(These are all downtempo indie rock songs with electronic overtones. You can hear previous influences in them, like folk, blues, or pop, but they’re also their own thing. It’s a big departure from the cutesy indie rock of a couple years ago. I love it!)

Wye Oak- Two Small Deaths

Wooden Birds- Secrets

Shins- Sea Legs

What makes each of these so endlessly listenable for me is the easygoing, melancholy tone combined with a slow but persistent beat.

What songs are you obsessed with these days?

I have a tendency that when I find new music I listen to it obsessively for a couple weeks and then move on to the next thing.

Currently depending on what I’m feeling like it’s been
Trombone Shorty for upbeat music
The Tumbled Sea for melodic peaceful music

Crystal Silence by Chick Corea. Very slow and mellow.
