It’s the food service industry. It sucks that they have to work on holidays, but it comes with the territory. Not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving – those people might want a pizza. Why shouldn’t they be able to get one?

Should the guy have gotten fired for it? I don’t know.

@livelaughlove21 There are always people who have to work on Thanksgiving. Does it suck? Yes, for some, but I really don’t think it is worth losing your income to make a “stand”.

@flip86 Oh, I completely agree. We get paid to do a job. If we don’t do the job, we risk getting canned. He was paid to open on Thanksgiving, he refused, and he was canned. The only person to blame is him.

I just wonder if it could’ve been resolved without firing him after 10 years of service but I wasn’t there, so what do I know?

@livelaughlove21 I guess I should have dug a little further before I posted. The guy got his job back after the Corporate Pizza Hut people heard the news. It was a franchise owner who initially fired him.

After ten years? There were no newbies in the whole company to cover shift for the night? You’d think he’d have some kind of seniority.

@Seek_Kolinahr He was refusing to open the store or make his employees come in. It wasn’t just that he wanted the day off himself.

Pizza Hut should be open 24/7 and 365 days a week. Not everyone celebrates holidays—like Christmas and things—those people might want a pizza at any day of the year and at any hour. Why shouldn’t they be able to get a delicious Pizza Hut pizza at any hour of the year? Say, 5am on Christmas Day, or whenever.

This manager got his orders from the owner, and he should be following them no matter what. That’s what he’s paid to do. This is America, and not some commie hell-hole where subordinates get to tell bosses what they prefer to do and not do.

I would have sympathized with the worker if it was a moral or ethical issue, but risking your job over thanksgiving? What an idiot. Although, technically he is now better of on welfare since the welfare benefits pay more than his original salary. link

I don’t remember one fast food joint or gas station or grocery store that was open on Thankgiving when I was growing up in the 70s. Everything was closed. Seriously, who is going to Pizza Hut on Thanksgiving?

Good for him for taking a stand. Someone out there will feel for the guy and agree with him. Social media loves this kind of shit and he’ll have many opportunities now, I’m sure.

He wa rehired with Pizza Hut’s apologies.

No more story here.

@jonsblond People that don’t celebrate Thanksgiving.

@livelaughlove21 I’m sure they are aware that many stores are not open on Thanksgiving and they can plan ahead like everyone else does. They aren’t going to starve if the local Pizza Hut isn’t open. just sayin’
