Where can I find a similar item for less?

Asked by jordym84 (4752points) December 1st, 2013

I’ve been shopping for a new dresser and I just came across one that I really like. However, the price is not within my budget.

Does anyone know where I can find something similar for less? It doesn’t even have to look anything like the one in the picture; I just need a dresser with similar dimensions.

Thank you! :)

How much less? You can buy a used dresser like that at your local GoodWill for about $10. If it needs to be white a can of paint and brushes will cost you $8.

I bought a dresser second hand for $50 at a consignment shop when I was in college. It so happens I painted it white.

Try craig’s list (never go alone to someone else’s house) Walmart, Target, and Meijer’s.

If you’re near s big city, Estate Sales are the best bet. Like a rummage sale, but a dispersal of a single person’s estate by an unrelated individual. Day 2 is usually ½ price.

Local flea markets.

Yard, rummage or garage sales.

2nd hand or thrift shops, including Salvation Army and Goodwill.

Remainder retail shops such as Big Lots and Homegoods.

Remember that the finish and hardware are options easily changed.

If you want a quality item that’s new and unused, this might be the best choice and price you’ll find.

I bought my Mom the nightstand (two-drawer chest) from this same Ikea series. I can tell you it’s very attractive, sturdy, and well-made.

Find the addresses of Thrift Stores and used furniture outlets in your area. I think you will be surprised at some of the deals you can get.
