Why create or update a profile on SurveyMonkey?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) December 10th, 2013

I got an email today from SurveyMonkey offering me a shot at a $100 gift card if I update my profile with them. I did not know I even had a profile with them.

Aside from the obviously remote chance of winning the gift card, why would I want to provide them personal data about myself?

It’s not just your information they wish to harvest… Usually sites will gather a large pool of information and sell it to whomever wants it. The more you add the more they make. If companies want specific bits and you happen to put that information out there… Next thing you know you’re getting adds for cat shampoo showing up at your doorstep. Seriously people, I’m using Dawn, give it a rest. (sigh) I don’t even know what site I mentioned that on…

Why indeed. I signed up for them but usually by the time I got around to checking my email I had missed the opportunity to take the survey. Eventually they got tired of sending me stuff and quit.

Thanks guys. Nuff said.

Maybe you find you have to keep on re-entering personal data in those millions of surveys you enter there, and want to enter them once and for all and not be asked again?

I wouldn’t, but maybe that’s what they’re thinking you want.
