Things I can do to reduce/prevent nausea?

Asked by jeremy0207 (202points) January 24th, 2014

Well I woke up around 5 am, nauseous , threw up. Couple minutes later, I threw up again. I really don’t want to throw up again, or at least not for a couple hours. Is there any way I can reduce my nausea, or prevent myself from getting nauseous?

** I know the crackers, ginger ale or sprite, soup, etc.

I am looking to see if there are any other ways?

I also took some anti-nausea medicine/liquid.

The answer depends on the cause. Do you know why you are throwing up?

Flu?

Hungover?

Worried about something?

Ate a bad burrito?

Not much you can do except to settle your stomach in the ways you’ve already listed. I’d take pepto bismol if it was from eating or drinking.

@zenvelo Alright thank you, I don’t think we have bismol, so I might have to settle my stomach like you mentioned. I’ll check anyways, thanks.

- I believe it was a sandwich I ate last night so I’d say food.

If it is the 24 hour flu my advice is don’t eat or drink anything for 4–5 hours, unless you feel very thirsty. This advice is not for infants or very young children, but for anyone 10 and older that is my advice. With the 24 hour flu your stomach will empty everything you take in, that can be true for food poisoning also. You can tell eating and drinking is pointless, if you drink a half a glass of water, and within 20 minutes are puking again. Your not absorbing it anyway, so might as well let your body rest. The 24 hour flu usually only had intense vomiting for about 12 hours.

If you have a fever, or can’t keep even water down after 12 hours consider going to the doctor to make sure you don’t get dangerously dehydrated.

Don’t forget Gatoraide. If it is from bad food, you probably are done throwing up by now.

Please be sure to stay away from Fox News.

Tbh, smoking/consuming marijuana helps.

Are you feeling better?

jeremy0207's avatar

@JLeslie Yes I am much much better. For breakfast, I had some soup, and some sprite. After a couple hours I slept pretty much for the rest of the day. Woke up, drank some Gatorade, then felt much better. Slept, woke up and I am all better now (: thank you

I’m glad to hear it. :)

@JLeslie By the way, I know this is off topic, but do you think you can help me out with my girlfriend’s dad? I am meeting him today for the first time in person and I’m a bit nervous. I know I should just be myself and such, but I want to really make a good impression on him, any tips?
