How does the app, "Friend Watcher" Work?

I heard people can see who you’re speaking to. It sounds very invasive. Everything I’ve seen about it sounds like it just tells when someone deletes you, which is silly.
My friend’s ex said he could see who she was speaking to using the app but I think he just hacked her FB. Is this possible?
