What's the longest you and your family have been apart from each other?

Asked by talljasperman (21916points) February 17th, 2014

Or significant other. Can be any one who is close to you. For my family we had holiday meals and in 2000 I stopped attending them. I’ve never felt better. I do miss the food, but I can order out.

Longest I’ve been apart from my wife in twenty-five years is two weeks.

I didn’t see my mother for 20 years.

No matter how long it’s been, it hasn’t been long enough.

My wife- about a month when she was working about 400 miles from where I live.

My parents and brother- about a year when I was stationed at the Newport, RI naval base, which is about 3,000 miles from where we lived.

My sister (who I consider my mom).

I just went around three years without seeing her since I was pissed. I just went up to visit her around two months ago. Her son is all moved out and in college and her twin girls grew about a foot while I let my anger towards her damage my relationship with them. I’m a fucking idiot.

My mom, maybe three months tops. My husband, a week.

I make an effort to be with those two important people in my life, the rest I’ll see ‘em when I see ‘em.

When I was in college I went a whole year without seeing my mother. I only saw my dad and my younger brother because they came to California for a short business trip/vacation. At one point my family was spread out over 4 continents.

Hmm, well I have a lot of siblings, but….
I went about a year without seeing my mom at one point.
One of my sisters that I am close to lives in NYC….probably a couple years.

My husband….the most was probably a month when we were first dating and it was a long distance relationship.
