Is a bachelor of Arts degree now the new high school? Also I was wondering if everyone is screwed in one way or another?

I watched “Generation Screwed” on CBC televisions the National, and they said that university is the next high school for entry level employment and I wondered:

I have an advanced (university stream) high school diploma and the best job I could find is para-night manager of a wink’s/mac’s convenience store. Now with the economy I can’t even get a job at a fast food joint. I have two years of a bachelor of Arts degree that is expiring (going out of date) soon. After I balance my household needs, for food clothing and shelter, should I go back to university or the trades? Or stay on disability and keep to my self? My grandpa was a plumber, in the end of his life, (He started out as a professional boxer). My other family members went up north to work in the mines to pay their student loans and are broke today. No ones plans seemed to work with my family. So I was wondering if everyone is screwed? I would like to be a comedy writer one day… until I get a masters degree in psychology and open a online counselling service.
