What did you have for lunch?

Asked by livelaughlove21 (15724points) March 12th, 2014

Inspired by this question.

This week I’m eating a banana, a container of light yogurt, and a string cheese for lunch. Followed, three hours later, by a serving of mixed nuts. And, of course, a bottle of water.

What about you?

Coffee. That’s pretty much it for now. Was gonna make hard boiled eggs, but I only have one egg left.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@Symbeline I hope you ate breakfast! I can’t skip meals. It boggles my mind when I hear people saying they forgot to eat. Forgot…to eat?! That’s the last thing I’ll forget.

@ragingloli Har har har…

Berserker's avatar

@livelaughlove21 Didn’t eat breakfast either, but I didn’t forget, it’s because I woke up like three hours ago haha. I never eat right away when waking up. I’ll do so before leaving, probably ramen and toast, and maybe the remaining egg.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Symbeline Oooo… I love an egg in ramen. It is like egg drop soup.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@Symbeline Ah, Ramen. The stuff of my childhood. I had to quit Ramen because of the sodium content, but that stuff rocks.

Berserker's avatar

@livelaughlove21 Yeah I usually mix something in it, like salami or hot dogs. To take some of the ramen taste away lol.

@LuckyGuy Yeah, they go great together. Never actually mixed em together, but I could try that. (egg hard boiled, unless you got something to suggest?)

Nothing yet.

It’s only 10:21 AM here, and I’m still digesting the “What did I have for breakfast?” question.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I usually skip lunch. I started doing that a long time ago and I can control my hunger unless I get near food.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I started doing because I was usually super busy with work or on the road and I just taught myself to do it. Now I do it because it helps keep my weight down. It isn’t that hard to do for me. Sometimes I give in or I keep some stuff in my desk.

zenvelo's avatar

It’s only 10:30 in the morning! I don;t have lunch for another 45 minutes.

But I will have a salad of mixed greens, balsamic vinaigrette dressing (not too much), tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell pepper, Brussels sprouts, avocado, and bacon. and a sparkling water.

Juels's avatar

Last night’s leftovers. Otherwise, I usually skip lunch.

livelaughlove21's avatar

Lunch skippers! Tsk tsk. Not good for the metabolism to skip meals. /PSA

@zenvelo Not here it isn’t. 1:43 in the afternoon where I am. Your lunch sounds crazy healthy. Go you!

Pachy's avatar

More calories than necessary. :(

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Symbeline I beat the egg with a fork with a little soy sauce and olive oil on it. Then while the ramen is cooking I warm the egg mix in the microrwave for about 20–30 seconds until the eggs starts to firm up and then I mix is some more. I put the hot ramen in a bowl and pour the egg mush all over it. Yummy!

JLeslie's avatar

Some meat that will go bad if I don’t eat it. Corn and some roasted poblano peppers.

LuckyGuy's avatar

In honor of @janbb 2 Clementines, a banana, and some walnuts from the neighborhood trees seasoned with a touch of olive oil and Zatarains creole spice. I washed it down with a 50–50 mix of water and Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix that has been hanging around for months.

SadieMartinPaul's avatar

I don’t eat lunch.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Egg Drop soup with crisps (.99) and 2 crab spring rolls ($6). Gave the guys 1 spring roll to split. No breakfast. :(

Lightlyseared's avatar

Half a cup of coffee and a couple of bites of a cheese and ham croissant. Sadly not as nice as breakfast and the view wasn’t as good. (I had breakfast at a bar called the duck and waffle which is on the 40th floor of an office block in London).

syz's avatar

Nothing.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ucme Was that the whole skit, roasted chickens? lol

Winter_Pariah's avatar

3 6 oz chicken tacos with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, shredded lettuce, chopped onions, sliced black olives, and diced tomatoes

4 oz of fresh picked strawberries

8 oz fresh picked orange

@KNOWITALL Yep, I just like his accent.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I don’t get it.

A whole prepared package of Jell-O. Don’t judge me. :)

ucme's avatar

Err, I had roast chicken for lunch

Brian1946's avatar

Cheese & Crackers and a Diet Coke….....exciting

Coloma's avatar

I had a decadent BLT on marble rye with fries at a local cafe with a friend.
I did remove about half the bacon, bacon overload.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Coloma Is there such a thing as bacon overload? lol I’m pretty happy with turkey bacon, have you tried it?

Coloma's avatar

@KNOWITALL Yes, my fav. but most restaurants don’t use it.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@KNOWITALL @Coloma Glad to know someone likes that stuff. I’ve only tried it once and I threw the package away after I took the first bite. Blech! It’s real bacon or no bacon, but I do prefer center cut because it’s not nearly as greasy.

Coloma's avatar

@livelaughlove21 Funny, I like the Turkey bacon but hate ground Turkey. Yuck!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Goose bacon might be interesting.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@Coloma I’m not a fan of ground turkey either. “Oh, use ground turkey instead of ground beef – it’s just as good!” Uh, no it’s not. I’ll eat a homemade turkey burger occasionally, but it’s not my first choice by any means. I’d rather eat less of something good than more of something I dislike. I manage to fit ground beef into my diet just fine.

longgone's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe “Goose bacon might be interesting.”

You’re gonna give @Coloma a stroke.

SadieMartinPaul's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe “I usually skip lunch.”

I’m with you. I never get hungry, or have any appetite, in the middle of the day. Why force myself to eat food that my body doesn’t seem to need or want? And, skipping lunch is a very effective weight-control tactic.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m still on my use what is getting rotten kick.
I just had elbow pasta that expired 3/2013. For the sauce i mixed up some Ching’s Secret Green Chilli Sauce and some Classico pizza sauce and sprinkled in some Rosemary that has been in the spice cupboard for at least 5 years. I put a couple of shakes of Parmesan and Romano Cheese on top. De-licious. And free!

Why did I have Ching’s Secret Chilli Sauce? I friend from India was visiting 4 years ago and cooked some exotic dish with it. The bottle has been in my refrigerator ever since.

Coloma's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Marwyn is sending out the signal to the geese in your zone, CYA, the troops are assembling. lol

JLeslie's avatar

@LuckyGuy How much stuff do you keep in the pantry? If I ate everything expired in my house it would probably be around ten meals. Most of the expired stuff would be condiments or dressing. Maybe some sort of pasta thing in a box.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I know no one asked me, but my husband and I never buy extras when grocery shopping. We try to only buy what we’re going to use that week. Still, somehow, we ended up with two trash bags full of food (granted, a carton of milk and a boxes took up quite a bit of room) when we were spring cleaning last weekend. Now our pantry and refrigerator are pretty empty.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@JLeslie I am embarrassed to say how much is here. This is an old house with plenty of room. That is the problem. I have pantry shelves as well as cupboards. I also have shelves in the basement that were supposed to be for some emergency that has long since passed. There is a full refrigerator in the kitchen and a freezer in the basement, a small fridge in the basement and a full sized refrigerator (unused) on the porch. I host 2 large parties per year: 1 for about 80 people and one for about 5. Stuff gets left over and forgotten. I am trying to turn this around.

I am not much of a drinker but people insist on giving me wine or other type of alcohol when they visit. Last weekend I inventoried and found over 50 bottles in the basement! It is ridiculous. That is why I have been drinking Bloody Mary mix at dinner. I am using stuff up rather than throwing it away.
It is a fun challenge.

JLeslie's avatar

@LuckyGuy I had a stash of wine several years ago, because everyone seems to think wine is a great gift. I finally gave it all to a friend. Must have been 20 bottles. I try to regist wine quickly now so it doesn’t sit in my house. I keep about two or three bottles on hand just in case for visitors.

Similar to what you are doing, a couple of years ago I got together all the mini shampoos and soaps and lotions from hotels and started using them up. I kept saving them for visitors, but they were really piling up and some were getting very old. I didn’t have to buy shampoo, lotion or soap for 6 months I think, with the exception of liquid soap for me, I can’t use most bars, but my husband used the bar soap. I also had cosmetic samples from department stores that I tried to use up. Now, when I get free samples I try to use them right away, no saving them. I do keep two shampoos and two conditioners for people who visit. When I get new ones from hotels I use the old ones and replace with the newer ones.

@LuckyGuy Bloody Mary MIX, with dinner. Gak!
Dude, just take all the booze down to your local skid row and makes a winos day! lol
