If you like PF Changs restaurant have you tried the PF Changs frozen entrees?

Asked by JLeslie (65417points) April 2nd, 2014

The ones that are sold in a bag in the supermarket? I think they are terrible. I don’t think they are actually the same recipes the restaurant uses, do you?

Frozen foods in a bag are not fresh made in the back of the freezer section. They mass produce the food and then freeze them throw them in a bag. Fresh veggies when cooked and frozen lose their crispness and taste.

No, I have not bought any in the freezer section, I would rather drive the 45 minutes to the closest one.

@Tropical_Willie I don’t think it is the freezing process, I’m not even fully convinced Changs restaurant doesn’t use some frozen foods. I think the frozen grocery items are created by another company and Changs just puts their name on it. That’s how it tastes to me anyway.

The food is not made at a PF Changs restaurant, it is made by ConAgra foods.

I realize it is not made at a PF Changs restaurant, I was just hoping they would use the PF Changs recipes. I don’t think they do.

I tried them once for the same reason as you. It was terrible. They do post 4 recipes on the bottom of this page on website.

I like PF Changs restaurant quite a bit.

When I saw their frozen offerings a couple years ago I thought, “WooHoo”.

Then I looked at the sodium content and ingredients and thought, “Ugh, no”.

So I’m not surprised to hear they’re awful.

@cookieman I’m pretty sure the salt and fat are very high on most of the food at the restaurant.

Edit: Here is the nutritional info for the restaurant you might prefer not to look up your favorite dishes. It’s Chinese food, of course the sodium is high.

I do like PF Changs, but I don’t think the restaurant is “healthy” compared to the frozen food, and am not surprised that the restaurant food has such high fat and sodium content.

That said, I found a couple of the frozen dishes to be decent, but nothing compares to actually going to the restaurant :P

@DominicX Yeah, I was not thinking about healthy when I wrote the Q, just the flavor of the food. I never think of PF Changs as healthy, although a few of their dishes can qualify for me as healthy enough. Some of the salads and the veggie dishes like the cucumber salad probably. Steamed veggie dumplings also. Chinese food is almost always laden with fat and salt, it is one of the more unhealthy foods for that sort of thing.
