There are a few proposed names:
Thunder, Twisters, Thunderbirds…
None of the names seem right.
I’m sure Oklahomas will get it sorted out soon, now that the team is headed here.

And you can have them, they suck! From Seattle.

They do suck.

How about The Oklahomians or The Tumbleweeds?

The Hornets were at the bottom of their game until they visited Oklahoma for 2 seasons…. Now look at them! We’ll see what moving to Oklahoma does to “The Players – Formerly Know As Super Sonics”. Humm…. could that be a name?

The Team most most likely will be called “THE THUNDERBIRDS”
Thunder and Twister would both make lousy mascots.

those names—twisters, thunder, thunderbirds—remind me too much of the D-League teams or WNBA teams. I guess all of the good ones are already taken, though.

as a Memphis Grizzlies fan, I have yet to find a grizzly bear in Memphis, so i can’t say a whole lot about team names. I wish we could have gotten a different name when the team moved to Memphis.

How about the Seattle Seagulls? Then Seattle could have the Seahawks and Seagulls.

I think you’re missing the point, buster. Seattle will no longer have a team. The Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City.

buster… You must not be in Seattle or Oklahoma City…. It’s big news in both cities!
Oklahoma City just “Raided” Seattle and has taken the NBA team (formerly known as the “SuperSonics”) to Oklahoma! The new owners have agreed not to use the Sonics name incase a new NBA team is acquired for Seattle in the near future.
Anyway, the yet to be named Oklahoma team is what is in question.

Update…. I’m hearing that the “Thunderbirds” might not be possible for trademark/copyright reasons.

I personally think the team should have an Energy related name.
Oklahoma’s growth has always come from Energy companies, why not use that for the inspiration for the name? Or maybe take the nickname that Seattle put on Oklahoma and go for the “Oklahoma-Raiders”.The name “SOONERS”, a Oklahoma College Football team, came from a derogatory nickname for land-run claim holders that skirted the rules.
