Do you dance?

Asked by Dan_Lyons (5527points) April 26th, 2014

Can you dance? Did you ever disco? When the drum solo starts do you feel the urge to get up and writhe and contort to the primal urges welling up in your loins?

Is dancing a prelude to romance for you?

Or are you a bit more refined and simply don’t go in for that sort of thing?

Only when I drink and I haven’t drank for 25 years.

ragingloli's avatar

I. Do. Not. Dance.

Dan_Lyons's avatar

Are your bodies stiff and uncoordinated? That is sad.

GloPro's avatar

I think I dance. I’m not sure what others call it.

dxs's avatar

^^Oh gosh. I never even watched Seinfeld and I remember how funny I thought that was.
If you consider flailing my limbs around as “dancing”, then yes.

chyna's avatar

Only in the privacy of my own home.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Never disco danced, barf. I am a good dancer, especially slow dancing. Otherwise I just relax and get into it if I have a good partner.

GloPro's avatar

@Adorondackwannabe So you’re an amazing swayer? I can still hear my teachers now: keep space for the Holy Ghost between you…

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@GloPro Never took you for a prude. :) Fuck no, you better be grinding on me. Once we get comfortable with each other.

Berserker's avatar

I took tap dancing lessons as a kid. Never followed up on it, but I still remember most of it. Not very impressive without the right shoes, or flooring though.
Otherwise, nah. I don’t dance…well I do, in my apartment, when no one is looking.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Symbeline Hey my offer to go dancing with you if you come down to the states still stands.

Berserker's avatar

I’ll take you up on that offer if we ever meet. :)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Symbeline I would really like that. Let’s keep that in mind. :) That really did make me smile.

Yes.

I met my husband at a dance club. We rarely go out dancing anymore, but when we do, or are at a party with dancing, we still easily can dance for an hour straight. Love it. I miss that we don’t go out dancing more often.

I Zumba a few times a week.

When I was very young I took ballet, and I took it again as an adult when I was in my 30’s. I still would take it if it wasn’t so expensive where I live.

Frequently and with abandon. Just tonight, my son and I turned up the song, ‘Happy’ and danced like crazies in the kitchen. I don’t care what I look like. Dancing is like laughing for me, an expression of joy and happiness.

ibstubro's avatar

I can dance a little sidestep.

I can slowdance, in that all 4 feet don’t really leave the ground, and, politely, your bumps don’t bump.

ibstubro's avatar

@cazzie‘s answer makes me sad. I always wished I had that abandon.

That’s frickin’ awesome @ibstubro. What movie is that from?

Yes. I love dancing. I don’t do it as much as I use to, but I still love it. I’ve done all types of dancing over the years. Ballroom dancing is my favorite. I haven’t done that in over a decade though.

NO! A Mafioso doesn’t have time to dance. Why waste time doing something so worthless while I can do more productive things like blackmailing, robbing, murder…? ~

[Serious answer:] I don’t dance, and I’m nowhere into it. I think my body is born not for dancing. Whenever I dance I move so akwardly. I can never copy ant dance moves! I just don’t know why…

Yes—I think it’s a parental requirement!

My 20-month-old will drop whatever he’s doing, climb on the couch and shake his booty whenever I put on Happy or Everything Is Awesome.

My four-year-old and I have dance-offs. She usually wins. I can’t keep up with her moves. She likes to watch break-dancing videos on youtube. I’m not that flexi-strong anymore!

linguaphile's avatar

I dance—all the time. Love, love to dance.

Can’t hear a note though. Still love to dance! I have a strong sense of rhythm and internal music.

When I lost my hearing as toddler, I also lost my sense of balance. My mother put me in dancing school to retrain my balance awareness. That led to 12 years as a dancer. I also frequented dance clubs in college. I trained for two weeks with Pilobolus – they were my dream company. I then coached a cheer-dance team for 6 years.

Sound is not a pre-requisite to having a sense of rhythm. How many people who can hear have no rhythm?

turtlesandbox's avatar

I don’t dance. I’d rather go hiking.

hearkat's avatar

I move in rhythm with music, but it doesn’t qualify as dancing.

Cruiser's avatar

Yes…I love to dance as dancing elevates being with the woman you fancy to a whole other level.

gondwanalon's avatar

Not really but I try to fake it now and then to please my wife.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies as @Dan_Lyons said, “Best Little Whorehouse”, one of my favorite movies with an outstanding cast and amazing score. I used to make it a point to watch “Whorehouse” at least once a year. Oddly or not, it’s one of the anchors in my life, One of my “joys”. “Rocky Horror”. Gilda Radnor. “Green Acres”. “Beetlejuice” I don’t hold as tight to the wistful as I do the joyful, and I experience them all less deeply as I age.

:)

I was good at it when I used to go out more, but stress in life these days has rendered my fun time short over the past several years. I used to love grinding.

BeenThereSaidThat's avatar

When I was younger I loved to dance. Now I dance only in my mind.

flutherother's avatar

Can’t do it. Don’t have that gene.

ibstubro's avatar

I have ‘danced’ in my chair, here at the ‘puter many, many times!

Dan_Lyons's avatar

^^^^ I met a girl at a bar in Hollywood called j. sloans. We seat danced all night {me in the chair and she in my lap}.
It was a great whirlwind courtship. What a great way to meet someone.

ibstubro's avatar

Sounds like a ball, @Dan_Lyons, but I hope you weren’t blue the next day,

Dan_Lyons's avatar

She didm’t make me blue for a few months @ibstubro

ibstubro's avatar

Nice dance, then, @Dan_Lyons !
