Have you ever fought the Law and won?

Asked by Dan_Lyons (5527points) May 5th, 2014

You remember the old song, I Fought The Law and The Law Won. {Check out the Go-Go Girls in the vid!}

Well, have you ever beat the law in a court battle?

How did you do it? Did you have to tell your lawyer what to do?

I am the law.

I got a MIP and the ticket went from 160 to 30. That felt like winning.

Sure, I’ve beaten parking tickets and such, but this is the wrong crowd to ask about winning in court. If you want exciting stories about what it takes to navigate the rocks and rapids of the legal system, I’ll give you a hint. What is it that OJ had, that you and I are unlikely to to see?

No, and I have never shot the sheriff either, or his deputy. lol
I have never been in trouble with the law, minus one petty theft incidence as a teenager. I’m a good girl.

I had a resident in my apartments that was arrested with a medical marijuana card. It became a big case in 2002
The judge ordered the police to return his marijuana.

@Judi I wonder how much of it was left to be returned?!!?

<——- Went the wrong direction, then left the cop speechless using insane logic (“If you don’t want me to go like that why don’t you just put a warning sign?”)

Edit: sorry, I didn’t read the whole thread carefully. I thought it was just about fighting the law in general, not a court battle.

@Mimishu1995 It is about fighting the law in general. Just most only do so in court and not on the street against the coppers.

Um I have put fledgling cops through the paces. Once I know I was caught wrong handed speeding Cali stop. But I took control got out of my car despite him saying I shouldn’t and told him I didn’t have time to get a ticket I was headed to the docs… And I was and he listened and wished me luck.

In court I got off speeding and no seatbelt charges. One he didn’t show up… Two buses don’t have seat belts… And our kids ride in them…. I come off very nicely in court but never been charged with anything serious. So that could be a contributing factor.

@Blondesjon Johnny would be nice, but it’s the pile of money that OJ could devote to the “interests of justice” that sets him apart from me. It’s an interesting coincidence, that people with big bucks rarely go to jail. How many millionaires do you suppose are on death row?

@Unbroken @Mimishu1995 That reminds of the time I was pulled over by the CHP while driving back to L.A. from Anaheim/Disneyland.
It was heavy traffic, just turned dusky to dark. I was high-beaming people and jumping lanes and making pretty good time until I noticed a car’s headlights jumping around like I was. It must have been a ¼ mile back, but i git a weird feeling so I started driving properly, in the middle lane.
Well, sure enough the headlights jump around until they are finally directly behind me. And the the RED lights come on and I am being pulled over.
The Chipper who walked up to my window was angry as all get out and he let me have it. He said I better have a damn good reason for driving so recklessly because otherwise I was going to jail.
I don’t know where this story came from, but I just started with it and took off rolling…That is I told him I had been at Disneyland with the family and got a call at our room at the Disney hotel telling me my brother had been in a horrible car accident, and he was in the hospital asking for me. I then told him I realized I was driving dangerously and that was why I slowed down and sat in the middle lane.
He seemed to lose his anger at hearing this story, but being a cop he asked if he could call the hotel and ask my family about this. I said sure, but he would have to try a dozen names because it was a large family reunion with lots of relatives and I wasn’t sure who had rented the room.

He went back to his car to run my license and registration and then returned, told me how sorry he was about my brother and I should make haste to get to the hospital, but should do so in a safe manner.

I thanked him and drove off. My heart didn’t stop pounding until an hour later.
