Do you rearrange your dishwasher?

Asked by GloPro (8404points) May 19th, 2014 from iPhone

If someone is nice enough to load your dishwasher for you, do you go behind them and rearrange it properly?

What is the proper way to load a dishwasher?

REarranging?

That’s my mom’s job.

Hell no!

Not unless there’s something else I need to fit in there – then I’ll even rearrange my own arrangement.

I don’t look a lot of gift horses in the mouth.

Not unless they did a particularly crappy job. I’m not OCD about where each item belongs in the dishwasher, but I have to rearrange it if things are stacked so the water can’t get between them or if a dish keeps the spinny things (it’s a technical term) from doing their job.

I did slightly rearrange the dishwasher after my mother-in-law put the dinner dishes in there Friday night. She put a wooden spoon on the top shelf instead of in the silverware thing – not sure why – and she put a pot in there, which I don’t usually do. I tend to wash my pots and pans by hand and stick everything else in the dishwasher.

Yes. Definitely

If my daughter does it. I can fit twice as much in as she can. So if there are dishes left and no room, I’ll have a little rearrange, once she has gone out the room – I wouldn’t want to discourage her. If there is nothing left to go in, then I would probably just turn it on.

My husband stacks it fine apart from putting flat baking trays in which stop it cleaning properly. My mum is probably the only other person who might stack it and she’s ok at it.

If anyone else offers I would say no…

Absolutely. I also wash the dishes by hand before putting them in the dishwasher.

Screw it. if they’re in there they’ll get washed and I really don’t care for petty shit like that.

I put my big spoons in the top rack, @livelaughlove21. Otherwise they can prevent the soap dispenser from opening properly.

No one is ever nice enough to load my dishwasher ! That has never happened!

livelaughlove21's avatar

@ibstubro Never had that problem before. Huge utensils like the ones used for the grill, yes, but just a regular wooden spoon? It’s never caused an issue for me.

I live alone. I do it right the first time.

I don’t mind loading @Aster, it’s the unloading I hate.

The way my dishwasher is structured, the soap dispenser is just above the utensil rack (which is the outside front of the bottom rack). I have accidentally put serving utensils in that end and at the end of the cycle, the soap was unmelted. Were I to load your dishwasher, I might load cooking spoon on the top rack out of force-of-habit, @livelaughlove21.

When I lived alone I never had a dishwasher, @elbanditoroso, and I pretty much always had a garbage disposal. Now it’s opposite, and I dislike it. Unfortunately, I really don’t have enough counter for a dish drainer.

No. If I have more stuff to fit in, I’ll rearrange so they’ll fit, but I’d never go in behind someone and do it “right.”

You learn to know your dishwasher. Outsiders rarely do. People roll through this place with such frequency that the wife and I reload the dishes with the near frequency of blinking our eyes. Frankly, I’ve learned from experience to NEVER presume to place dishes or utensils in the dishwasher at some other household. The thing that most surprises me is the items that you find in the dishwasher after any event. The variety of “surprises” is always in proportion to the quantity of empty wine and liquor bottles.

^^^ haha, my sister left paper plates in the dishwasher when my 2 year old nephew put them in there trying to be helpful. She praised him for being such a big boy and washed them.

ibstubro's avatar

Washed washed them, @GloPro?? I’d be afraid that would stop up the dishwasher. Maybe a rinse cycle.

They were the heavy duty kind covered with that waterproof film. I don’t know if she ran a full cycle or waited two minutes and stopped it again. Zander’s attention span is about that long.
I laughed at the pictures she sent of him loading the dishwasher.

Yes, I am really obsessed with the layout of my dishwasher. Everything must be just so or I go crazy.

johnpowell's avatar

@filmfann :: I do the same. I wash by hand and just use the dishwasher to rinse and sanitize.

I also make sure no dishes are touching. Even if that means I have to do multiple loads.
