Do you think dinosaurs and humans cohabitated?

Asked by lefteh (9429points) July 4th, 2008

I know my answer: no.
But take a look at the argument here, and let me know what you think.

hmm…it would probably take a larger than usual apartment. And how would they split the rent? The dinosaur would probably use more water than the human, but being cold blooded might not have a need for AC.

lefteh's avatar

Hah, I am not a fan of discontinuing the use of words that have taken on a new connotation. Cohabitation still means “living together,” whether it be in an apartment with your boyfriend who won’t propose or on the same planet with a separate species.

@playthebanjo the question was about cohabitating lol and about the cold blooded, it means that ur body temp is nearly in “sync” with ur environments temp so actually cold blooded needs more AC and since warm blood can adjust their body temp, they need less AC

My answer is and always will be NO.

We have carbon dating to prove that these dinosaur bones are as old as scientists say they are. That is a huge hole in the argument. It says that scientists have no proof that the bones are over 65 million years old yet it has been proven using carbon-14 dating.

lefteh's avatar

@Eambos: Although I agree with you, this page on the same website makes an interesting argument against C-14 dating.

No and I laugh out loud at anyone who thinks otherwise.

Like that “Jesus riding a dinsaur” coloring book.

I provided the link to that picture on another question =P

That website is trying to prove the bible as fact. Much of their information seems to be influenced by the bible, which makes me wary of it being true. Although there is fact in the bible there is also fiction found throughout. In this day in age what arguments can you have that prove the validity of creation. There is overwhelming evidence against it, most of which also supports evolution.

PupnTaco's avatar

@ lefteh: those arguments are only interesting if you buy into the whole “god” supposition. Always a laugh when people appropriate scientific language to justify something that can’t be proven.

lefteh's avatar

It’s only convincing if you buy into the God delusion. It’s interesting regardless.

PupnTaco's avatar

True. I thought you meant interesting=worthy of further investigation. I find it interesting as well, as an indication of how far we still have to go as a society. :(

lefteh's avatar

Yes, and as a study into human nature. It boggles me that that logic is acceptable to some people.

“Genesis says that God created all land animals on the sixth day, so dinosaurs and humans must have lived together.”

I don’t get it.

marinelife's avatar

@lefteh Are you bored today, fella? Calling those things arguments is giving them too much credence.

No, there were no humans during the age of the dinosaurs. If there had been, we would have been food!

BTW, new evidence suggests that dinosaurs were warmblooded.

brownlemur's avatar

@Marina – Yes, there is evidence that dinosaurs were indeed warm-blooded. Check out this page: http://www.geol.umd.edu/~tholtz/G104/10430endo.htm

And yes, humans and dinosaurs currently live together (ish)....they’re called birds now. Did humans and “real” dinos ever live together? Very much NO.

lefteh's avatar

@Marina: I think the arguments are quite interesting. The logic is almost believable. There’s just one problem: it’s all based on the God delusion.

marinelife's avatar

We’ll have to agree to differ. In this case, I am going with sndfreQ’s definition of interesting.

Spargett's avatar

Bullshit.

Its con artists that contrive backwards logic to counterpoint solid, scientific data that has been compounded over hundreds of years of research.

The feeble minds are easy to woe. If you’re looking for fantasy, I hear the Harry Potter books are entertaining.

Lightlyseared's avatar

well according to Hollywood they did.

Harry Potter books are amazing

You silly kids…. Jesus didn’t ride dinos… The dinosaurs died off long before then, when Noah misunderstood God and undersized the Ark ;)
Next thing you’ll be telling me is Jesus wasn’t a real vampire….

Trance24's avatar

@Eambos – I was thinking the same thing about the carbon dating. Scientists don’t merely craft things to “fit” their theories. They have factual evidence.

And to answer the question: The only dinosaurs we live with are the animals that evolved from their time sharks, horseshoe crabs, and crocs. (These are just a few.) No humans lived millions of years ago, there for could not exist with the dinosaurs. Even if we did live millions of years ago I do not think we would last long.

lefteh's avatar

@Trance: Their argument [or jumble of words, to please Marina ;) ] is not that we lived millions of years ago, but that dinosaurs lived far more recently than science proves.

marinelife's avatar

I have a cute little one here in my house. I feed him plants. He poops petroleum products. Who can prove I do not?

lefteh's avatar

If there was a creature in your house pooping petroleum products, Rex Tillerson would have sniffed you out years ago.

Whenever someone tries to retort with “you weren’t there yourself, so you can’t really prove (…)”, you know you’re dealing with an utter imbecile.

osullivanbr's avatar

Well now then…
My boss and me both share the planet at the minute. If that’s not proof of the theory I don’t know what is.

marinelife's avatar

@osullivanbr We won’t ask which is which . . . ;)

osullivanbr's avatar

@Marina: Touché

seVen's avatar

Yes. Because The Word Of God The Holy Bible Is The Only Truth. Nuff said.

Trance24's avatar

@ Lefteh – Wasn’t really referring to what they had said about dinosaurs living more recently. I was generally saying it would have been impossible because of the fact dinosaurs did live millions of years ago. Should have clarified more sorry. =]

Trance24's avatar

@Seven- For goodness sakes back up your statements when your going to say them. All you ever say is God(PERIOD). When really that isn’t enough if you are going to put input into a question back it up. With some form of evidence or fact. Because quite frankly I am tired of you always pushing your beliefs rather then expressing them in a more mature matter.

Upward's avatar

Let’s say the Bible is correct, couldn’t the dino’s have been separated from humans by water? Making the right answer NO. Seems odd they forgot to mention them in the bible.

lefteh's avatar

@Upward: As far as “forgetting to mention them,” the website I linked to above responds to this by saying:

“Interestingly, the word ‘dragon’ is used a number of times in the Old Testament. In most instances, the word dinosaur could substitute for dragon and it would fit very nicely. Creation scientists believe that dinosaurs were called dragons before the word dinosaur was invented in the 1800s. We would not expect to find the word dinosaur in Bibles like the Authorized Version (1611), as it was translated well before the word dinosaur was ever used.”

Lightlyseared's avatar

Let’s face it if there were T rexs knocking about at the same time as people they would have been a lot more than 1 or 2 random mentions of dragons.

lefteh's avatar

Very true. And that is where the site’s argument goes wrong.

Spargett's avatar

This is just simply retarded in every aspect.

JellyB's avatar

I’m cohabiting with one right now….. ;)
