It depends how well it does in theaters. The better it does, the shorter it will take to come out to DVD. About 3–5 months for a good movie, and anywhere from 5–8 for a dud.

usually 3 months depending on if they want to wait until a certain time of year, such as christmas.

Actually, the better box office performers take longer to be DVD released, whereas duds are released sooner, and some movies (the worst) go straight to DVD and never make it to the silver screen.

@mcbealer

Sorry to say, but you’re wrong. The better box office movies want to get to DVD sooner, so they can continue the sales before people lose interest in the movie.

@beast- Mcbealer is right. If a movie is doing good in the box office, why would they rush it to video? The better the movie, the longer it stays in the movie theaters….and as long as they are selling movie tickets, they are making money!
If a movie is crappy, it usually goes straight to video.

I’m not arguing how long it stays in movie theaters. Hell, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was in theaters for over 3 months. But let me re-quote what I stated above.

“The better box office movies want to get to DVD sooner, so they can continue the sales before people lose interest in the movie.”

Why would you want people to begin to lose interest in a movie. You’ve made millions in the box office, now let’s make millions more by selling DVDs.

It depends on how good it’s doing in theaters, but not less than 6 months and not later than after a year
