Some quirks in Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks...

I’ve noticed some quirks in 10.9 Mavericks that I’m hoping to find work-a-rounds for. The main one that has been bothering me is that when I reopen an app, like say Text Edit, the OS never resumes where I left off – it never even leaves any files opened. This happened after I wiped my HD clean. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas of what I can do about it?
