How much coffee is too much?

Asked by Derrick545 (73points) July 2nd, 2014

I drink about 5 cups of strong coffee a day. I’m a large guy at 6’1” 250 lbs too if that matters. I once drank a whole Redline Energy Drink and ended up with a pulse rate of over 190 and was in the ER overnight.

the energy drink was a shot and it was extremely concentrated with caffeine.

Why are you doing that to yourself?

How much more do you want? When twitching starts then that is also too much!

“The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individual sensitivity, but is estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass or roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult”

Granted, that’s lethal dose, as you have shown you’ll get bad effects before that. Depends what you mean by ‘too much’.

There is a website which calculates what will kill you. Pretty interesting stuff. http://www.caffeineinformer.com/death-by-caffeine

that said, I have too much caffeine daily. I usually have about 17 ounces of Red Bull, a smallish cup of iced coffee, and a lot of diet coke. Insomnia.
